I have read many threads on vaccines here and am still a little confused. I get it that they can cause damage (even death), BUT Is it ok to give parvo & distemper. I would feel better knowing that they are protected.....with that said....What is the schedule?
what age?
will a single dose be enough......no boosters.
I have read two statements on what age is best to give vaccines
1. 12 weeks
2. wait til puppy is 6 months because immune system is fully mature.
There is just so much info out there that is gets hards to figure it out.....thanks to all.
Giving vaccines is no guarantee that your dog is protected.
we don't give any vaccines to our puppies or adults. I don't feel it is ever OK to vaccinate. This is my personal belief based on raising dozens of litters, doing tons of research and spending over a decade working in a veterinary clinic.
Everyone needs to find their own comfort level, and do what they feel is best for their dogs. It's not something that other people can answer for you.
out of the 2 options you gave, the second one is probably better for the dog, at 12 weeks maternal protection should still be present.
BUT, for my own dogs and puppies......no vaccines.
With my puppy I did DPv at almost 8 weeks, and will do one more at almost 12 weeks. They have had some parvo cases in our town next door...and I know it is no guarantee, but since there is an active outbreak...I feel better doing it.
We have to do rabies at 4 months...but I will try to wait until 6 months and license her then...
These are just a couple of the many good resources out there. I also gave my pup a series of three vaccines (parvo/distemper) and regret it now. He also had one rabies at six months. I have learned so much...I don't think I will ever vaccinate again, Unless I get caught!
