Raise a drink to the hard working dog trainers and (hard workingline) dogs!!!)
I am proud to say after nearly a year of working with my (hardworkingline :grin dog he is making *notable* progress. Of course, we've hit lil milestones all along the way and have had some set backs...
But I just wanted to post something about this topic, the ups and downs, all the thinking, planning, situating, set ups, repetitions, treats, toys, clubs, people and time and patience and everything involved in the process of establishing an excellent training foundation for your dogs...
It surely pays off with dedication. As a first time for me, it's been a steep learning curve...painful (figuratively AND *literally*) at times, but overall, I need a bumper sticker that says "I'd rather be training my dog"
Now, off to find a drink. Toast to you all, and to Cato and me.

Diet Coke, Water, any drink counts...
Thanks for the added Kudos to us, but really, the Toast was to all of you as well.
I know it's not "rocket science" but the details...the time. The comittment to the dogs is beyond anything I've experienced and I've "had dogs all my life".
Graduating to a workingline, for me, has definately held its special challenges.

Michele,
I have to say I COMPLETELY agree! I have my first working line GSD and have ventured into Schutzhund training. It has been a steep learning curve for me and at the same time tremendously rewarding.
My dog has brought me to a whole new level in many respects and it's all good!
Cheers!

Right, right. I'm trying to find the right words, and it's something along the above quote.
That, combined with reaching various points with the adolescent dogs and asking yourself "why, why oh why do I even DO this?!!!" and then you keep going and understand *exactly why* you do.
It's that full understanding I'm reaching as I learn with my dog.

Hmmm.... And I was always wondering "how the heck did I make it this far without having a dog/doing sport???" Lol...
We've had dogs growing up and I've been around them all my life, but it wasn't til I got my "own dog" 2 yrs ago, that woke my interest. I can't wait to get my working line dog next!

Now you're talking!!! You, IMO, did it "right" (er than I did)
First, learned *how* to train, then will work into the harder workinglines.
There probably was a different "starter" dog for me out there, but don't know *where* because Cato *is* my starter dog.
Ready, set START!!!! Loving it.
(do not attempt this at home...please consult a professional)!!! Thank GOD for professionals in my life.
