I went to the grocery store the other day, checked the discount meat section . I buy for me and my dogs, if I see something I like.I ask the butcher what they do with what they dont sell. The reply from the butcher was we throw it away.So I ask what about selling it for dog food, after sell buy date had ran out.No, cant do that. SO I ask why not mark the price down more on last day to sell.Answer was store policy was to mark down 50%. I said what a WASTE .

I agree that this is a waste, however I also agree that they have the guidelines to follow and that if someone were to eat that meat and get sick, they would be liable.
The butcher cannot assume that you really want it for dog food.
Best thing to do is make sure that you get there on the 50% off day and buy what you need.

I buy most of my dog food in bulk, try to keep cost about same as quality kibble.I stop at the grocery store once in a while,to maybe add a little variety .A 50% off is good for me if I find some T bone.good for my dogs if I find some pig feet. Think of all the grocery stores in this country that follow the same policy. All the meat thrown away, the energy it took to raise that cow, chicken, pig lamb, etc.energy to package it and keep it cool,to truck it from here to there. What a WASTE.
