My pup (7mo) is doing much better in the potty training department, however, she makes numerous trips instead of doing it all at once.
A typical morning: wake up and take her outside, she pees, sniffs around, starts playing and after a few more minutes I bring her back inside.
Get her breakfast ready. She starts eating, stops about half way thru, take her outside and she poops. Bring her back in and she starts to eat again. Then stops and wants to go back outside again. Take her outside and she pees.
Repeat same for evening meal. Also, repeat many trips thru out the day.
She rarely does both on the same trip.
I had been bringing her in after potty as per ebook, so she would know it was a business trip only. I started extending her time when she wasn't doing it all in one trip, but still she is making numerous runs and it is one or the other, not both.
Also, when I take her out on a business trip and she doesn't potty, I bring her in and put her in her crate and try later.
Any ideas?

Nora,
It sounds as though she has made her own schedule and you are following it.
Are you taking her out on lead? And, after praising for the "pee" part, are you continuing to talk to her or do you tell her to "finish her business"?
I wait all my pups out when outside for the "business" part. I do not talk to them or try to engage them while I am waiting for them to potty. I pretty much ignore them. Once they do both, I throw a big party whether it be with treats or a toy and we have about a 5 minute game or training session and then it is back inside.
I do not let my pups get into the habit of "doing it their way".
Unless the dog absolutely tells me that they have to go out or they will have an accident. They wait.

Thanks, Carol.
I am taking her out on lead.
I think she may be starting her own schedule, but, I probably do talk to her. I wait and let her run around an sniff some more but she is usually interested in sniffing holes and things.
I have also recently switched to raw and am having some slight constipation problems, plus the weather has been bad on and off.
But it seems to be a habit the past few days that she pees, comes inside to eat, stops mid way, has to go out to poop, then after about 30 min has to go pee.
She pees almost everytime I take her out, sometimes just a little and other times like she really needed to go.
Last night after she had been outside not more than an hour before, she came and peed right in front of me on the rug. (I have been tethering and had let her explore thru the house for a few minutes while still on lead,)

also-walk her!
sometimes, my pups just won't go, i can stand in the yard for 20 minutes-nothing.
so i take them for a short walk, like down the street and back and tht is all it takes to get the stuff moving.

Ditto. Also, the pup needs to be taken out after waking up, after eating or drinking, and after any play session.

Thanks for the replies.
I take her out after all those times plus more. I think we go out a gazillion times per day.
Maybe it is the bad weather we keep having on and off. During the storms the past few days we hadn't been able to walk. Soooo, exercise in the house. But I wish she would do both at the same time and not have to make trips out every 30 minutes.
She doesn't soil her crate. But it is the times I have her out of crate that she keeps having to go. I have been keeping her out of crate a lot more because she has been so good to go outside potty.
Connie, all this started about the same time as the raw feeding, constipation, bad weather, etc.
Maybe the weather being better today will help. She is doing better today so far as she has only gone outside potty about 6 times today.

I'd collect a clean catch and check for a UTI, because frequent small peeing is classic.
It's not a big expensive test.
Then if that's clear, I'd just remind myself that this is a puppy and that she's really, all in all, doing darned well! If you take her out so often that the outdoor potty is the habit that sticks, then indoor potty will not be something that enters her mind (unless it's a real emergency, which would be handler error).
Look back a couple of weeks. See the progress?

Thanks, Connie.
Looking back, she is 100000% better.
I will wait a day or so for the urine and then do just that but after I read all the posts all over again, I think I may just be jumping to conclusions.
She is doing much, much better today (the weather is better and we have gotten to walk and stay outside longer).
I sometimes think that because I take her out so often, she pees on command sort of because she is used to me taking her out a lot and maybe she doesn't need to go out so much. Like I said, the accidents are very, very few. And maybe I just want her to hurry up and be completely safe in the house and not in the crate.
Thanks, again.
Connie, my sister has a dog that has on and off loose stools. I will start another thread and hope you and others can help.

Thanks for the help. This is just an update.
My pup has done excellent today. I think this was just another Nervous Nora over-reaction.
The weather improved today, hence, more outdoor exercise, hence, taking more time to potty, hence, dog fine.
Thanks all. I don't think I was this nervous with a newborn.

Thanks all. I don't think I was this nervous with a newborn.
You mean a newborn human? They are much like us. Dogs.... not so much.
I've had my share of dogs who would hold it for as long as possible to avoid getting rained on ...
