Anyone have a trainer recommendation for San Antonio, TX?
I've contacted a few trainers and everyone seems to be very anti-pinch and very pro-halti... I had one group email me back saying that pinch collars are not allowed in class, and that regarding training: if I felt I was giving a correction for a behavior the dog knew at any time, then maybe I should reconsider my training method. Ouch...
I'm just looking for some basic OB guidance here... would looking for a schutzhund trainer be a better idea even if I'm not interested in it yet?
I am a dog trainer in San Antonio. Our website is http://www.superdog.com. You can give me a call if you want to talk about our services and qualifications. Hope this helps.
Dear Melissa: I am looking for dog trainers in my area, and I noticed you have some in the orange county, california area. However, I have looked at the site many times and have not found where you have described the philosophy on dog training. Could you direct me?

Sharon, the "Superdog" is like a franchise for dog trainers, and they've got a *boat load* of trainers listed on their site across the country.
The site has very pretty advertisement and claims it can fix most dog-related problems in a fixed amount of time.
Now when you speak to one of these trainers, ask them this directly - How much time did you spend training under David Baron ( he's the fellow in all the advertisement ) ?
That question by it's self should answer any question.
As a general concept, the ability/expertise of the trainers vary *widely* to say the least, so it's best to carefully check out any trainer that advertises under that blanket-type banner.
As always, I'd recommend watching a chosen trainer train another clients dog first as the best way to evaluate the trainers ability, and ask for three good clients ( best to have them spread out over the course of at least a year )
I'm just mentioning this as the I've received a fair amount of e-mails about "Superdog", and well, you know why ex-cleints usually send me e-mails.....
As a note, Melissa's MWD experience should put her heads above most of the trainers that are listed on the "Superdog" banner - they're lucky to have someone with her background.
You need tgo be very very skeptical of people who sell franchises. Especially people who bad mouth remote collar training. It reflects on their lack of experience.
So if you want my opinion - turn around and walk away. Save ytour money
