I'm trying to decide which organization to go through w/Kodee to be a therapy dog. I have the Pet Partners Program book from The Delta Society (I had to order/pay for it). I also requested info from Therapy Dogs Int'l. All they sent was a little flyer with the testing requirements on it. That's fine, but I am trying to decide which organization might be the best to join? I kind of have the impression from some of the threads I've seen on different boards, that The Delta Society registrated dogs are the most widely accepted at hospitals, etc. But don't know if this is true? Is one organization better, more picky, more difficult to join? The tests look about the same from what I've received.
Which organization is the best and why? Or are they about the same?

kori,my dog is registered with t.d.i.before you pay the money and take the test, find out exactly you want to do.after going with tdi i found that most hospitals in chicago go with rainbow dogs,a local place.i called so many places and nobody used tdi.i would call around and see who they use.some hospitals do there own testing of the dogs.i also contacted many librarys to see if the wanted us for a reading program, nobody ever called back.i know that delta cost is more than tdi.
Register with the program that is most used in your community. I passed the TDI with my Boerboel but found out most in my community used another program. I did however use my dog for the police that came down for Katrina but did this on my own as they were based next to the field where I trained for tracking.
Thanks, guys. I already checked out the websites, but I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with either group. I now know to definitely check and see which one is used around here. I thought that anyone who allowed therapy dogs in their facility would accept Delta, and probably TDI. I'm surprised that that isn't the case. Thanks for saving me a lot of time and possibly frustration. I will call the facilities around here and check them out.
In Kansas many of us go to CARES Inc in Concordia for the training - public access exam and canine good citizen exam ---and they meet the standards of Asssistance Dogs international. its my understanding that Delta Society offers less latitude in terms of Therapy Dog- theirs are more pet visitation services while the others like TDI and ADI allow for access similar to service dogs- albiet with permission in most cases - In Kansas the law is inclusive of Therapy dogs in the statutes in compliance with KSA39-1101 and KSA39-1113. Call them - I think i have given you the number but if not PM me.
