Hello all:
I have a 13 week GSD. I have been reading that one should not jog with the puppy till he is about 12-14 months old. This much is clear.
The question is what is adequate exercise for young pups. Is it all throwing the ball/fetch or is a 1-2 miles/day walk o.k. at this age ?
I read in Dr. Billinghurst book (Grow your Pups with Bones) that running and long walks was not a good thing for puppies, the most he recommends is allowing the puppy to free play and chew on raw meaty bones to excerise his jaws, shoulders & leg muscles.
Eliminate impact in any aerobic execise, small runs (meters at a time)after a ball. The towel, ball or bite roll on a string is good, too. Do not encourage jumping either; again the impact issue. Good Luck.
