She is eating as much as phoenix. should i give her more or what. She is looking good weight wise but i have only had her for 5 days now My little rose bud

I really don't like letting my puppy get fat. As leerburg says a fat puppy is not always a healthy puppy. My little rose bud

Sandy Moore Webboard User Reg: 07-25-2006 Posts: 2665 Loc: AZ Offline	Stephanie, make sure you're feeding 3 times a day and that the weight of the food is 5-10% of the puppy's weight, divided over the 3 feedings. I used to feed about 4% or so of my pup's weight at the time. When my dog was a pup, he ate like you described, a few seconds and it was all over. It rarely lasted more than 10 seconds. Your pup's behavior is normal and I wouldn't worry about that at all, as long as he's getting 5-10% of his weight in food. If he starts getting a bit chubby, you can cut down a tiny bit.

Now i kinda have a nother problem i really don't know how to handle i prepair there meals in the kitchen of course. My older dog phoenix will see me and run to her kennel. and then i wont give her any food. I dont want her to think that I am not rewarding her for going to her kennel. The reason i say that because we have alway rewareded with food. Phoenix was not kennel trained from a puppy only at 5 1/2 months did I start a kennel. Will she think I am not rewarding her. Or how will she take it My little rose bud

You can reinforce a command if yoiu think you may have caused confusion by asking for the behavior and then marking and rewarding.

I'd just smile at her and call her back out, then give her the food for coming to you. If you do feed her in the kennel, then yeah, I'd give her the food, cause that's why she's going in there.
