I am so upset. My 2yo neutered labX male has a very small sore spot on the top of each hind foot. I noticed it on one foot several weeks ago but thought it was not associated with his licking/itching. He had started licking his chest and front legs late December 07 and at that time I stopped giving varieties of raw food and went to raw ground rabbit and veggies (cooked acorn squash and crushed raw leafy greens. He didn't improve so took him to my holistic vet in February. As he has shown some allergic reactions since I adopted him late 2006 she thinks its environmental vs food and told me to add more fatty meats to his diet and add salmon oil (I had originally thought he was allergic to it and had not been giving it)He also nibbles his hind elbows and bites at his side near his thigh and licks genital area. Tonight that area is reddened and then I noticed his hind feet each have a small sore spot. He is not missing hair anywhere on his body. I had recently added different raw meats like beef tripe/heart and also chicken once or twice. Added back a raw egg every few days. Also giving rinsed canned salmon once a week and another day canned sardines. Now I feel that some of these foods may be the problem BUT what I would like to have input on is whether the areas he is licking are more prevalent for a dog with environmental allergies or food allergies? I find him mostly licking chest/front legs and the genital area. I was afraid it was mange (he had sarcoptes when I first adopted him winter 06 which was treated with oral ivermectin) but vet said it would have worsened by now like it did last time and that its allergies. I had another vet look at him and she said same thing, I didn't feel his itching was that bad plus no sore places. I feel like crying because I didn't realize he was making the top of his back feet sore altho I was noticing him licking his paws lately Thanks for any input. I have some raw ground goat in freezer so will stick to that I guess just in case its food. anneh
