Wasnt sure where to post this, I got an email today that there is a spot open that I can take at a Michael Ellis Seminar in Denver. I was on a list in case someone cancelled. Has anyone been to his seminar and would it be beneficial for me to go? I am working on AKC competition obedience. I am interested in schutzhund (got a small taste of it when I live in california) but there are no clubs anywhere close around here, so would it still help me if I'm only focusing on obedience right now? I just dont want to go and feel like I'm out of my league or something... I would take my 2 yr old shepherd. Just looking for thoughts and advice.

Anytime you can go and work with someone like Michael would be beneficial. He is awesome in everything he trains.
Well spoken, great teacher and makes you feel relaxed and at home when training.

I would go just for the obedience. In fact, the Big Sky Schutzhund group in MT have had Michael out for the last several years every Memorial Day weekend and the last couple years I was actively preparing my dogs for obedience (AKC and SchH) and not really doing bitework so instead of the one session of obedience and two sessions of bitework per day per dog I just did several sessions of obedience spaced throughout the day. Michael was really good about it and it really helped my dog.
I am probably going to be doing solely obedience this year again if I make it to the Ellis weekend since I am prepping my male for Open and Utility and have a few issues that Michael could probably aid me in.
Thanks for the input everyone - I'm going for it, both days and I'm really excited!!
Ingrid, I seen you at the Scottsbluff Kennel club show this last weekend on saturday. You were sitting in front of me on the ground with your male cattle dog pup talking to a lady. I was watching utility and rally, I guess I should have introduced myself Small world......
Hi Kathy! You should have! That was my friend's ACD puppy who is too much of a mamma's boy so I gave him a dose of the suck it up and deal with it treatment :-) Were you showing a GSD in Novice B? I saw a woman who had a nice drivey bi-colored (at least that is how I recall the color) showing there.
My friend got her first two UDX legs with her male mali there and her daughter finished her CDX on her Novice A mali as well so it was a good weekend for them. Alas, Sinjin was Best of Losers both days in breed :-p
No, I wasnt showing, just watching. I;m just getting back in to training from about a year off so I'm hoping I can get him ready for Novice and Rally by October (think theres a show in Rapid City then), if not I'll be ready for Scottsbluff next year. I'm hoping Michael will get me going in the right direction (I bet he can from what I read about him)
and I think I seen those friends of yours work their Mal's on saturday-very very nice and I bet Sinjin hasnt seen too many "Loser days" by the way, hes handsome....
Thanks Kathy! Sinjin is a big red moose of an ACD but I love him nevertheless :-) Yep, there is a show towards the end of October in Rapid City (17-19). I *love* the show. It is a great place to do obedience and rally. I have gone the last few years to do obedience and breed.
I will Carol
Ok, I know I'm going off my topic but is that show indoors? and are most of the shows around here indoors? In california all the trials were outside which I liked but I can see the indoors thing being alittle more stressful for the dogs..and me-LOL. Just another thing to proof them on I guess.
