I'm going to be getting a new prong for Zeus, just wondering with the Herm Sprenger is there any difference between the chrome and stainless steel other then finish? I will be getting a non quick release.
John, if you look closely at the pictures of both the stainless and the chrome you'll see the clasp is different between the two. I have the chrome - no problems whatsoever with it rusting, like new after about 1 1/2 years - and it's been through water lots of times. The clasp on the chrome can be clipped to any ring in the chain for a good fit.
I'm not sure about the stainless, but it looks like the clasp will only hook onto the "O" ring at the end of the chain, and if so, you will need a more precise fit when purchasing. You can call Kelly at the Leerburg office and she will definitely be able to tell you if that's the case.
Edited to add: oops! I thought you were getting a quick release, see that's not the case (always good to read a post twice before replying ), so the clasp issue isn't an issue as I was talking about the quick release. But as far as the finish is concerned, see above.

Edit reason: OOPS!
I inherited a chrome plated prong collar which was purchased in 1975. It goes in the water, all weather, everything. Still no rust. I don't even give it any preventative treatment.
Ah, Petsmart . I'm sure they don't even carry the Herm Sprenger brand, which I like because the prongs are rounded on the ends and well cause Ed Frawley likes them
Steve and Randy, that's great to know. I figured there would be no problem with any rust issues but the one from 1975, that's 33 years old! Wow.
Maybe mine has some rust spots on it because I got it from Petsmart =)
Really? I've never seen a prong collar of any brand sold at Petsmart. Goes against their in-store "training" methods. Sure have a wall full of halties, though.
A local pet supply store does carry the "made in Neverland" brands, and boy are they junk. I would never trust them. Only Sprenger for me.
