Okay, I gave my pup DPv at almost 8 weeks and will again at almost 12 weeks...I was saying hi to the vet with her the other day (took her in for a treat)...and asked if I could just bring my vaccine with me for her check up...they said I could but suggested I do the vaccine with Lepto because there have been several cases in our area. So...what would you all do?
Second question...my adult dogs are due for their 3 year rabies this summer...they had shots as puppies and again at a year (full doses of it all)...do I need to do anything for them? Is Distemper/Parvo even an issue for 3 and 4 year old dogs?
I don't plan on giving my almost 2 year old any more distemper/parvo boosters. I did do a titre test and he showed a strong response so further boosters are not needed, IMO. The following link has good info on revaccination:

My adults have not had shots since I came to this site and Ember has not had shots ever and she is 7 mos approximately.
We have parvo around here (not on my property but in the area) and Ember is great. We went and visited the vet the other day just to pick up some supplies for my gear bag and he was really happy to see what she looked like.
He is very supportive of the titers.
Although he really wants me to give rabies, more due to the laws than anything else, but he will titer for it as well.

These are just a couple of the many good resources out there. I also gave my pup a series of three vaccines (parvo/distemper) and regret it now. He also had one rabies at six months. I have learned so much...I don't think I will ever vaccinate again, Unless I get caught!
My husband is a City Councilman in our city...so we really have to do the rabies and license our dog...we have to make sure we follow the rules...if that makes sense.
I'll check out the links...

Oh yes, I totally understand. That is why I am so excited about this rabies challenge study. I hope they can get governments to change the laws to reflect the findings of at least 5-7 years. Even better would be if lifetime immunity is proven.
I have heard thet there are things you can give homeopathically to help minimize or alleviate vaccine side effects. If you must give them, maybe contact a homeopathic vet and look into that.
But since lepto was specifically mentioned, I would never give that vaccine. It seems to be unreliable, and harmful.

In the early stages it is treatable with antibiotics. It can be more severe. I suggest googling it and learning all yuo can and then make an informed decision that is best for your situation. No one can really tell you what to do.
Maybe Connie has some good links, and will see this and post them.
Here is a pretty good link explaining transmission, etc...
Keep in mind that if you decide to vaccinate, the vaccine may not be effective for all of the known species in the Leptospira genus that are known to cause leptospirosis.
Also, this vaccine is only effective for a year (or less)...
