Hello Leerburgers(we should crown Mr. Frawley king of dog training)
Anyway, lately Sparky(my JRT)will come to me and then give his back to me in several settings on the couch, on the bed, of course after we invite him to the bed or couch, its always an invitation if he happens to get on, I immediately say the command " go to your Place" and it works flawlessly with and he'll go along and go to his crate, but I'm confused is this some kind of inappropriate pack behavior I should correct asap.
IMO, I wouldn't read to much into this behavior. What do you do when he does this? Do you scratch his back? Does this happen only in relaxed settings or during formal obedience, like a recall? Do you prefer that he faces you when on the couch or bed? He is probably just relaxing and avoiding the eye to eye contact.
When we are all just sitting around, my GSD will do that when she wants her back scratched and as soon as I start she will sprawl out on the floor and totally zone out.
