We started our two year old GSD on a raw bone diet about 10 days ago. We made the transition "cold turkey". He seems to be adjusting, but today he was having difficulty defecating. When I went to pick up the pile, I found whole pieces of bone in the pile. We have been feeding pork neck bones.
Will these whole bones pose a problem with his digestion and evacuation?

No, I don't think so, but they are supplements that the dog needs.
I would get the plain live cultured yogurt though as that will help aid with digestion.
Connie is GREAT at this stuff, I know when she sees this she will help as well.

Jerry,
I guess this is question for me as well as you.
But wouldn't chicken necks make for an easier jump for the dog's digestive tract?
I have to watch the ammount of pork to date, that I allow my dog to eat, it just seems to play hell with the balance in her system.
If I'm not learning, I'm not paying attention.

Forgive me for not posting these earlier....my brain was not firing correctly....these articles will help A LOT, they did with me and I cannot say enough about them:
Pork necks work just fine as RMB's, but he needs muscle meat as well as organ meat. Ratio's are normally 60% RMB's, 35% muscle meat and 5% organ meat. Too much RMB's will lead to constipation and powdery hard poops. As others have mentioned canned pumpkin helps.

Thanks,

I think you'll have a clearer picture of the raw diet if you think of the "dead prey diet" instead of the "raw bone diet."
