Hello group, I need your help urgently, I put on the e-collar last night and tried it 3-4 times while on a walk and my dog saw a couple of cats on level 2-4 and he seemed fine last night, this morning I went to praise him on his head and he screamed like a child(dog: jrt 3yrs old, neutered, before this incident he was ok, happy, active, normal let's say) same thing with my wife and he actually barked at her(she does not handle him) and when I got home from work and went to praise him, again he screamed, we just got back from dinner and I called his name while he was crated and again he screamed like a child it was horrible we've never seen Sparky like that and this came out of the blue completely out of left field. Now I'm thinking those couple of jolts by the e-collar may have caused somekind of neurosis, is this possible cuz I'm freaking out !! I'm taking him to the Vet tomorrow morning, it actually scared me seeing him like that, guys, totally unbalanced, a new dog, I don't know who Sparky is now, he looks like his mind snap in two and he's just coping. Can someone chime in speak about the negative effects of e-collar training and the effects on dogs, please
thanks

How did you acclimate the dog to the e collar before you used it? Did you find the proper stim level? How did he react when you used the e collar on the walk?

I put on the collar for 2hrs before and then went for walk, I started at Level (L1) and nothing, then went to L2 and he kind off moved and then on L3 he literally jump, his a JRT so picture like a little hop and then he would go around me. When I put on the collar I gave him a treat as well, at one point I had all 3 collars on him, flat, prong, and ecollar
thanks

Gosh, I don't know...when I used the e-collar on Maggie, she jumped up on my bed and peed. That was really weird...and she acted sad for a few days...after that she was fine...actually, after that we didn't need the e-collar anymore...she decided to behave. She knew when she saw it...now all I have to do is pull out the remote and she is like a different dog...
But, that was the only odd behavior I saw in her...hopefully someone else can help out more...

Maybe a pinched nerve or muscle spasms in the neck? This is the first time I've never heard of an e collar reaction like this, poor guy.

wow, thanks, I'm desperate, I'm taking Sparky to the Vet to see if its something else but I just took him outside and jog about 100yards and he was right there with me, I jogged on purpose to try to see if it was something physical but to my untrained eye he looks really good, his tail was up, and when we came in I invited him to the couch and he jumped up but it was terrifying to see all the aforementioned events.
thanks

Hey Jorge, if I'm seeing your posts right he's a rescue and you havent had him very long. Maybe you are rushing the corrections on him, putting too much pressure. Maybe not because of the ecollar but just everything. I'm pretty sure Jack Russels are supposed to be tough little Sh**s and really full of themselves. You might want to lower your expectations a little and remember he is a terrier.

Thanks Steve but check this out, I have a down comforter that sometimes have on my couch and in the past he laid there, last night it just happened that it was storming and lighting in Miami,FL so I decided to have him sleep with us on the floor but on the comforter, when I told him to go to his place, he refused totally, I then increased my tone of voice and he went, so now my wife tells me this afternoon he was on the comforter and then she told go to your place and he went, when she got back he snapped at her and now my wife tells me, honey invite him to the couch and let him get on the comforter and I do, Sparky jumps up and makes himself at home, I then tell him to "go to your place" and he refused, I then had to pickup the comforter as I pulled from underneath him, mind, very gently, just like a little tug, he screamed like I was killing him, Oh my god, I could not believe, his depressed, tail down, hunch over, totally negative posture but outside while on the jog he was cool, I even called him a few time and he quickly came over.
Can this dog be having "comforter withdrawal symptoms" haha or just a simple neurosis with the comforter, totally bizarre folks
thanks

I think I would be a little more consistant with him Jorge. He's new to you and your wife and I'm not sure if you know his history since he is a rescue. No furniture or comforter. Crate.
