Hello,
I am new to this list and I have a 4.5 months old Giant Schnauzer puppy who I want to train for schutzhund.
Does anyone can recommend a good all breed schutzhund trainer or a club to join in Baltimore MD are.
Don't pick a club with a flake for a helper, and talk to the TD as long as he/she will run his/her mouth. You can learn a lot just by listening.
I never tell people that I know anything about dogs or training when I meet and talk to them for the first time. I just listen to see what they say. . .moniter the BS factor.
VanCamp
You say monitor the BS factor. This knocks out about 90% of "trainers" out there, dos`nt it.

Alomg the same lines . . . my recommendation would be to visit some clubs *without* your dog. Make sure you feel comfortable with what you see in terms of helper work and the TD makes sense before you let someone work your dog.
Oldearthdog, This should be answerewd by the helpers and T/Ds that frequent the board. It would give all looking for this answer a chance to see different methods and attitudes in training, Did I say ATTITUDE. That to me is of utmost importance.
I would want to see at least a couple of adult dogs that have been competing successfully in the chosen sport and have been brought up from puppies within that club and with that TD. Many clubs have titled imports that make everybody look good, regardless of training abilities.
How decoys/helpers handle young dogs is very telling as to their experience and training philosophy.
Welcome to the board Marina,
