Any Dogtra is a great investment IMHO. I have the 1700. Tri Tronics work good as well.
I would not go with any other ones than that just from trial and error. All my other e-collars sit in a box and if someone needs to borrow one, those are the ones I lend out.

I got the dogtra and now wish I had gone with the Tri tonics. I think the dial to up stim is very sensitive. Easy to go up quicker than you mean. Good news on that front though is the stim incremints are tiny. Another annoyance for me. 127 stim levels are over kill for me.
My trainer has a tritonic and it seems more "basic". Which again just in my opinion would have been great.
As a professional trainer, I recommend the Dogtra brand of collars. The reason, reliability, the ability to incrementality
adjust the stimulation level, and the way the stimulation feels.
I do not remember the last time, I had a client's dog yelp from the stimulation of the collar. My method of training is not "pain stimulus" so therefore, I need the ability to gently raise and lower the levels. I can always "up" the stim if I need. IMO.
Happy Training,
ROni
Sue,
I have the Dogtra 1700 and like it. My recommendation is to order and watch the DVD either before the collar or at the same time. Watch the DVD before you charge up the collar.
I use the Dogtra collars too, even though we do sell the TriTronics.
the 1700 is now 'renamed' the 1900, in case anyone is shopping.
I like the Dogtra collars for all of the reasons Roni posted, in training you don't want to jump in stim level more than necessary and being able to fine tune it in tiny increments is kinder to my dog and makes it easier for him to learn and maintain a good attitude.
Sue, I use the 280 on my Malinois on a daily basis and it fits my needs very well. I think you would be happy with that model.

Edit reason: add info
Actually I like my Tri Tronics for all the same reasons you guys are mentioning. I like the way I can clearly click up a notch at a time and not find myself throwing out too much stimulation. I have never gotten a yelp. Basically I have two settings for willie - the lower one gives a small head movement - the next higher one gives just a bit more head movement - not even close to a yelp. It works very well and it is very consistent and reliable.
