I have 4 dogs 2 chihuahuas ( Ginger and Hannah) a mutt (Molly) and a chow (Precious), on Sunday Molly and the Ginger were fussing but nothing serious, they stopped when I told them to, but as they stopped Precious came around the corner and attacked Molly she picked her up and shook her, I screamed at Precious to stop when she finally did it looked like she was going for Ginger so I grabbed Ginger up and then Precious went back to Molly. when it was all over I had my son take Precious outside and Molly is ok she had 4 puncture wounds in the back of her neck and one on her backside. This is the first time this has happened but now Im afraid to let Precious back in the house. I hadn't read about how to break up a fight but I don't think I could have because they were in front of me and there wasn't anyway for me to get around them.

I can leave the chow outside, I can keep them separated forever if I have to, if thats what needs to be done. Precious was our neighbors dog and my boyfriend wanted her and she was suppose to be an outside dog then she ended up being an inside dog we have had her about 2yrs Im not sure what got into her.

Stacy, I will let the real experts chime in on this. Ed has a very extensive library that tells you pretty much what needs to be done. I am not an expert, but I have owned dogs and trained them all my life. Please read the articles, especially the one about chows. That's why I put those links in my reply, the articles say everything much better than I can.

Every chow I have ever seen has been an instigator and aggressive, whether it was towards other animals or people.
This breed is a breed I would not recommend at all for any reason.
I would keep them separate, and actually it sounds as though you might want to look into a reliable trainers help.

being a bully breed owner, i hate breed stereotypes, BUT, I have NEVER met a stable chow that wasn;t a show dog, ever. I also don't easily scare with lunging barking dogs, but again, my neighbors had a chow mix they kept chained near my yard, i wouldnt go near him. That has been my personal experience with the chows/mixes i have met/lived around.
BUT, plenty of people say the same thing about pits, and just like there are great pits, i'm sure there are great chows too. The problem is, the one you have has spent how long as an unsocialized outside dog?
What happened could be a freak isolated incedent, or it could be the start of a very dangerous pattern.
I would starting now keep them totally separated, have both the chow and the other dogs evaluated.

Carol, I think these are all females, too. Nothing is worse than dominance fights between females. I'm thinking dominance because the OP said her mutt Molly and one of her chihuahuas were "fussing", stopped when she told them to, and then here came the chow apparently to finish the job.

I would definitely say dominance as well as the "human" leadership may be a little weak, not that she is not trying though.
Having all females loose together would be a nightmare....I totally agree with that.

I am not one for breed stereo types either...but, the only dog I have ever been bitten by was a chow...it was only 4 years ago too...I was in complete and total shock that I was bit by a dog! Then I saw Ed's articles on chows...I would recommend reading them...chows these days just seem to have an aggressive nature.
