This came to me today in an email. Maybe it will be helpful to those that don't feed raw. You can scroll down to the second half of my post and see the various foods and the grades they received. My apologies if it's been posted before:
If the Food you choose is on this list and scores under 100 it is NOT appropriate or healthy food for your Puppy or Dog:
How to grade your dog's food:
Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer's rice", "rice flour" are all the same grain), subtract 5 points
6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points
10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points
11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn't allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points
14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn't allergic to beef), subtract 1 point
15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point
Extra Credit:
1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points
3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points
5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points
6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points
7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points
8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points
9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point
94-100+ = A 86-93 = B 78-85 = C 70-77 = D <70 = F

I have to say that a lot of the dog food on the first list that were given A are IMO not even close to being something a dog should be eating. the few that jumped out at me are....
Royal Canin
Nutro
Pro Plan sensitive stomach
Solid Gold
I didn't take the time to read the entire list but I think I would look elsewhere for a good way to evaluate kibble.
I think the dog food analysis link Tracy posted is going to point you toward some better choices.

I don't feed kibble but it's good to know some of the stuff on the list that were graded as acceptable don't make the cut as far as Leerburg is concerned.

Why shouldn´t a dog be eating Royal Canine? I know that it doesn´t suit some dogs (just as any kibble), especially the ones that don´t do well with high protein levels. It is that I just put my dobermann back on Royal Canine Energy 4800 after pretty much circling all the kibble foods available here but none that could keep her in such good shape as she is in with this food. During the winter when we didn´t do so much heavy training, she was ok with other foods but as soon as spring brought more training, tracking and longer runs in the forest, she started losing weight. Also her coat became coarse (before ever feeding her RC 4800 I thought it is naturally that way...) and thin.
I quit the kibble because I tried feeding her raw but I must have messed something up because she lost her coat and condition pretty fast. So after a showless winter of experimenting (and collecting amounts of dung that an average cow shouldn´t be ashamed of- only raw and RC have kept those amounts normal) she is eating RC Energy again for about two weeks and she has found her long lost shine and soft feel, plus she looks good (and I mean for a dobermann, not a greyhound) with normal amounts of food (she ate the rations of 60-80 kg dogs of other foods to keep her 30 kg on). I am a bit worried about the extremely high levels of fat and protein (30/32) but I am at the pretty end of my senses here. Unfortunately I have threwn the original bag of the food out so I can´t grade it according to the original post.

Here's the link to their ingredients:
(scroll down to bottom of the page)
http://www.healthfoodforpets.com/HealthyPetco/dog_compare.htm
2 of top 3 ingredients are not meat sources; also has beet pulp and brewer's yeast (not good, although I can't remember why). Also, the fish meal that they tout is 10th on the ingredient list.
I'm not a kibble expert, but there are much better choices on Leerburg's list of all natural kibbles.

I switched my 5yr old Rott from Science Diet to Canidae last month and I can already see a substantial difference in his appearance and activity. EVERYONE (vet, friends, etc.) told me that Science Diet was the best food I could buy.
Thank god for websites like this.

As with all things use what works for you. What works for me is kibble in the AM (rotated between Nature's Balance, Canidae, Halo, etc) with fish oil and Raw in the PM with vit E.
I know some very reputable breeders who swear by things I would never dream of putting in my dog but again, it's what works for them.
