Sch3FH2;Pup doing well so far, working on Souching command, laying down track about 10 to 12 feet.
So far have only put one turn in track. She sometimes wants to cross over and get ahead at the turn. As you suggested I'm letting her work this out on her own. (am i doing anything wrong) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Only giving 1 track aday, should I give more?
Thanks so much! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm guessing by "cross over and get ahead" you mean she is cutting the corner? If so, make your first leg so that the breeze is coming from your 7:00 position, behind you, and then turn right, so the breeze keeps blowing the scent away from her. Obviously, reverse that the next day so your turns aren't always the same way. If you're putting food in every footprint and she still wants to cut the corner, I would either hold her back a little with the line when she tries to leave the first leg or I might use better food on the corner itself to make it worth her while to work it. If you try to hold her back a bit and she struggles against it, don't do it. Some accept a little restraint easily and comply nicely; others have a fit. Don't get into a battle. And don't allow her to make a mistake larger than 1-2 body lengths. Don't assist her in finding the track, but stop her before she makes a big mistake. If she has good food drive and is intense, I would lengthen the track - 12' is barely enough for the dog to settle into it. But if she is easily distracted, none too excited about it, keep it short.

Sch3FH2, Yes she is cutting the corner, I will make sure the wind is blowing scent away from her.
She is pretty intense when on the track.
I will try to hold her and see how she reacts. Will increase the lenght to see how she does.
Thanks again,

Butch...put on the brakes there buddy!!!
She's just started learning how to track. Don't introduce corners yet, you'll confuse her. Keep working on straight tracks of varying length, with varying amounts of bait. WHEN she's got a REALLY good understanding of this, THEN start to introduce corners. She hasn't had enough time to fully understand and get proficient at the straight tracks.
Slow down & have fun, don't push too fast, you'll create more problems than you care to deal with. Trust me, I'm a member of the "been there, done that club" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Sometimes I feel like a member of the DUMB & DUMBER Club. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> I am not the founding father of this club. Just a charter member. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
GO SLOW! GO SLOW! I'm trying.

Does the track have to be aged for a pup this young?
If it's to fresh, even with the wind blowing away, could there be to much hot scent in the corners, and that's what is causing the corners to be cut?
I'm trying to get this all in my head for my time to come.

Olde, I'm new to this type training. I think she may be seeing the food and not following the scent. I'm using kibble, Sch3FH2 suggested to intice her in the corners with something more tasty. Most likely hold off on corner in morning.
I'm going to try in the morning,(if it's not flooded)to work a straight track. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I have to go back offshore to the rig on Friday morning, so Fanni will get a break from me. My wife will only work on a few commands while I'm away.
