I seriously would like to ask everyone on this board to ban business with Century 21 until this listing is removed. I e-mailed the agent who is handling this listing, and here is what I told him:
"It looks to me like you are listing a puppy mill for sale!?! How on earth can you list a property that includes "70 breeding dogs?" I belong to several dog forums (which is actually how I found out about this listing) and I am asking all members (thousands if you add all the forums I belong to) to ban business with Century 21 until this despicable listing is removed from the Century 21 site. Listing the property is one thing, but lising dozens of breeding dogs means you are listing a "ready made puppy mill" in my opinion.
I'm sure you are a nice guy, but in this case, ethics should mean more than commission. Please think about this and do the right thing. Thank you."
Not so sure about the "nice guy" part, but maybe he'll listen to reason...
If everyone who sees this would just take a moment to e-mail this guy, I bet he'd get enough e-mail to actually make him remove the listing...maybe. At least we would have tried to make an impression...
You have ZERO control over the personal property of your clients. I have come across many situations where the pets in the home end up homeless due to the sale...(and yes, I've ended up w/a few, LOL) there's not much you can do except provide leads to good homes. Unfortunately, dogs are considered personal property. Legally, there's nothing the agent can do except talk to the client. He has no support from the police/animal control if state req's are being met.
Yes, you can refuse a listing. Will that help those dogs?
I would probably take the listing, and on my way to put it in the computer, drop a line to animal control and see if anything can be done. As the Realtor, I would advise the seller/puppymiller to get rid of the dogs and sell just the property as a business-most folks won't want to deal w/70dogs anyhow, and in this market, who wants to add to the difficulty of selling the house? I'd offer to help him, while hammering into his pea brain that he is not going to be able to sell that dump, er, palace with all those barking mutts. If he didn't listen, I'd then lie about showings and say that the prospective buyers weren't interested b/c of all the dogs; they just wanted the house and kennels. Force the seller's hand a bit. Maybe he'll get frustrated and release the dogs from that hell. He obviously wants to get out-maybe the Realtor just thinks that it's a done deal; why make waves when the person's already out of the business?
BTW-C21 are franchises; banning them won't matter as much as if you banned a big corporation like Wal-Mart, etc. Also, it's not the company; Realtors are independent contractors.
I don't disagree w/what you're saying...but it's easier said than done, unfortunately. You cannot force someone with zero ethics (seller) to acquire them.
HOLY POOP!!!
6 acres with building(S) for 150K. You cant get .16 acres with a roach house in the ghetto for that here. I need to move.
I am not sure Century 21 is responsible for what its clients used the property for. You should go the local government or the people of the city and get his business licence removed if he is doing something unethical.
Cent 21 sells properties I am not sure I want large real estate companies involved in making moral judgements about properties. That is up to the buyers, sellers and agents. IMO that is

I do know that someone has sent this listing to the HSUS and ASPCA. The suggestion was for the HSUS to use all thier funds to buy the property, free the dogs, and tear it down.
