I don't know if Frontline works, if your dog doesn't get mites while on Frontline then maybe it works.
I have used Melaleuca Natures Cleanse diluted with water to half strength with very good results. I clean the ears and then put a few drops in the ears every other day for 7-10 days. For a big dog I would use 1-2 cc per ear.
According to this info, a product that kills adult fleas will also kill ear mites. (on the skin/coat)
A product called Revolution is approved for earmite control.
**I am not recommending this product...never used it before**
Personally I would try a non-pesticidal approach to control mites first, like grain-free diet, pro-biotics, mineral oil ear rinse if needed and maybe apple cider vinegar added to food to help keep the body's pH in balance and keep the ears healthy.

Does Frontline protect against mites?
If it does not any suggestions for something that does?
Note: The dog is currently on frontline.
Does the dog already have them (mites)? Or do you mean just preventative.
They are different for me because I tend to avoid a lot of chemicals, but wouldn't leave ear mites untreated because of the potential for bad inflammation and then infection from defense breach.
I went through this (mites) with an adoptee a couple of years ago and used Revolution until they were gone.
Melissa, can you use sweet oil from the pharmacy? How much do you use? Do you swab it out with a cotton ball afterwards? A Pap is about the same size as a Pin, so what you do for yours would be good for mine, probably. Just curious, I don't have a problem with earmites, but you never know what's down the road.

step one... take dog outside. Fill up the ears with earwash. This is an optional step. let the dog shake it out of it's ears.
Step 2: take bottle of oil out of cupboard... any oil... mineral... olive... corn... whatever so long as it's not motoroil. I have no idea what sweet oil is but if it's oil, and non toxic it could be used. I just tend to use the stuff out of my kitchen.
Step 3 Fill up ear... rub for a minute... let head go... do other ear.
I don't wipe out the ear after the oil because I want the oil to stay in the ear to drown the mites. I also try to keep the other dogs away for at least an hour so they don't lick the oil out of the other dog's ears. Ew...
Thanks,Melissa. Sweet oil is sold OTC at pharmacies, it's helpful for human ear aches and such. It costs way more than olive oil. I'm going to save this on my computer for future reference.
