i have moved to a house that backs up into the woods. And there are ticks all over my house. NOt on the dogs or cats, but crawling on my walls, on the counters, etc.
So far, i haven't seen any on the animals, unless we are hiking elsewhere. But they are getting on me, and generally just all inside my house.
what can i do??? that's not going to hurt the dogs or cats??? needless to say, it's VERY gross, and you know after you find just one on you, you spend the next few days freaking out if you feel anything touch you......

A trip to Lowes or Home Depot is in order. on the outside of the house use the flea and tick spread, inside the house and under you need to spray and don't use OTC flea and tick for the dog. if that doesn't get it under control you'll have to call the pro's and maybe even have to tent.

I would call an exterminator.
They will kill ticks and help take care of small animals that might be bringing the ticks into you yard. If I remember from my Zoo class ticks will catch a ride on small mammals but tend to prefer larger ones and climb on tall structures to hunt their prey.
So get rid of the ticks and the other little critters.

I wanted to add the easiest thing to start doing is trimming the grass and tall weeds close to ground.
If you decide to use pesticide yourself be careful and follow directions carefully. There are many negative stories about pesticides negatively effecting physical and mental behaviors in animals. The work by inhibiting inhibiting enzymes that denature neural transmitters. In large enough dosage they can even effect us.
I use to work for the Dept of Food and Ag doing residual pesticide analysis. You would be surprised what we would find in market samples.

exactly. If i have to use chemicals, i will, but only as a last resort. What are some natural ways to keep ticks out of the home. NOt really off the animals, but from inside my house.
Maybe just list those, any old wives tales you have heard, no matter how outlandish. If they don't work, then oh well, but it's worth a shot before going to pesticides.

The suggestion of using birds is a great idea.
But I am concerned about the short term. If the ticks are in your home you might have a small animal nest inside your house.
Today I would start burning citronella(spelling) candles
tomarrow
1.I would tomorrow Check my roof, walls and basement for nests.
2.Cut my grass and all tall weeds. That is where the ticks hang out.
I would seriously be concerned if it is that bad. Ticks carry lyme disease and that can get your really sick.

I doubt your neighbors would give you a pass on the guineas. NEE NEE NEE NEE NEE NEE NEE, BUCK WHEAT BUCK WHEAT BUCK WHEAT. The NEE is the male, the BUCK WHEAT is the female, and they will sound off every chance they get, oh, and they fly, so they will be in the trees and on the roof watching for things to NEE and BUCK WHEAT at, when they aren't in the neighbors yard.
Get some duct tape and stick the ticks on the sticky side, when it's full just fold it over and throw it away.
Exactly how many ticks do you have inside the house?
