I don't plan to get a Belgian Malinois, but I was looking at petfinder. I found a puppy that might be good for what I really want to do, french ring and mondio ring. Maybe a frisbee too.
When I saw Baroness I bite my tongue hard, I don't know if I should fill out an application for her. She sounds like a great puppy and I don't know why the police officer didn't want her anymore.
Should I let her go to different home because I'm not good enough to own a malinois? I didn't realize that she is in Tucson, Az. I have no problem to go in and meet her. I don't know if this is a fate or something. I always prefer to rescue a dog than buying one from breeder.

She seems like a nice pup.
I really can't and I suspect no one here really can answer these questions for you. Making the decision of ownership is not something anyone here can do for you.
If you've done enough research that a mal wasn't really something you consider I'd let her go. If you think she can fit into your life and your goals for owning a dog I'd at least go see her in person and see if the real dog is what you have in mind.

On no, no.....you do not get to think like this as I think that you would be great with a Mal, Lindsay.
You are driven, energetic and willing to do the work to have one of these dogs and you have been doing your research and learning all you can first which is GREAT!!!!!
All I can say is that you just have to make sure you are ready for one.
Can you put the time that is needed into her?
I see nothing wrong with you going and meeting her and seeing what she is all about. Remember to ask about her background and why she was put into rescue and ask about her health background.

I didn't see where she was left by a police officer...only that the police use them.
I think she is a gorgeous pup! Definitely go and see her! Too bad she's not near me. I'd be there in a second.

Melissa,
Umm.. I don't know maybe you are right. I was more likely to gett a beauceron puppy because it seems to be "suitable" for me. It is very rare to see a malinois puppy up for adoption in the same city where I live. When I look for a good puppy, they are always far away! I never get a chance to go in and meet them.
I didn't bother to fill out their adoption applications. I need the right dog to do things what I want. I don't want to wait another 10 years because any dogs that come to me will have a permant home.
Carol,
I don't think it hurt if I go and meet her. Let's see how it goes. I will bring a camera with video and let me know what do you guys think of her.
If I made the decision to bring her home, I would make sure that she gets what she needs to stay busy! 24/7

Lindsay, all I have heard you say from the beginning is that you don't want a Malinois.
What changed? Is this an adoption of opportunity, or do you really want a Mal?
If you do really want a Mal, bring someone experienced with you to evaluate her. If you want to do MR/FR it needs a special kind of dog, not just a Malinois, but a good Malinois. I wouldn't waste my time doing Mondio if I didnt have the right dog for it
Edit: Not discouraging you or anything like that, but haven't kept up on posts lately so not sure if I missed something. I wouldn't attempt Mondio with something other than a Mal, or I'd be doing it with my GSD's. Just make sure its the right dog.

Mike,
No, you are right. I didn't want a malinois because I don't know if I'm good enough to have one. I have two goals that I want to do french ring and mondioring. I chose to stay away from malinois and chose a different breed. I had an experienced trainer who suggested me that I should start with GSD and do schutzhund first. I don't know how well I will handle a dog that is very fast and reactive. I would say I'm pretty slow with timing.
I would say this is more of an opportunity because we don't see good puppies in rescue that often. If she turns out to be the right dog for me, then why not. I plan to contact my friend to see if he can come with me to evaluate her on Saturday at Petsmart.

Trust me Lindsay, your timing will improve quickly when you have a fast pup around.

This is true. You only have to get bit a couple times before your reflexes sharpen up. :-)

That's a beautiful puppy. If you get her I reserve the right to be jealous.
