My dog is due for his 3 year Rabies vaccine in June. Are there any remedies or supplements that I can give in advance to build his immune system and decrease the chance of a reaction?
Hi Sheila,
I have Martin Goldstein's book..The Nature of Animal Healing. It is a great reference for those wishing incorporate a holistic approach to caring for their pets.
His recommendation involves extra Vitamins A,E & C, for 1-2 weeks before and after vaccination. And a dose of 30c thuja just after vaccination.
The book is very complete. I think you can find it on this website under recommended readings. You probably can order it from Ed, I think. Check it out!
I have heard to administer Thuja after rabies vaccination also.
I recently also came across this...
Quote:
Rabies vaccination should be followed immediately by a single dose of the Lyssin 30C, which is the rabies nosode. This should help to minimize the harmful effects of the vaccine. However, if you see any symptoms or reaction to the rabies vaccination, you should consult a veterinary homeopath for treatment instructions.
Thanks, the info has been very helpful. Does anyone have any personal experience with the Lyssin or Thuja?
I hate the vaccinating but I'm nervous about adding something new to his system at the same time; even if it is for the good. I guess I'm checking to see if anyone's pet experienced side effects.
Now I don't do Rabies unless I have to and use titers when possible - If a must I do Vit C up to bowel tolerance prior along with Cranberry, Echinecia and CoQ10 for 2 weeks post as well. Hope all goes well for you !
btw not sure you want to read it right now but The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association has published a report in its April 1, 2008 issue, Vol. 232, No. 7, entitled: "Postmarketing Surveillance of Rabies Vaccines for Dogs to Evaluate Safety and Efficacy."
