This is Orion and I am his dad Joe Collins. Orion came to us by way of our vet. He was found wandering the streets of a nearby city with his collar grown into his neck. We brought him home 10 days after we had to put down our beloved 11 year GSD Mesa. Orion's about 2 1/2 yrs and has never had formal obedience training. Neither have I actually. So we are learning together he and I and having a great time at it. He is much smarter than me, I fear!
Anyway, we've heard of Leerburg from some USAR K-9 handlers that we've known over the years. Glad to be a part of the forum and I hope to learn much.
P.S. For some reason I am having trouble figuring out the embedding of photos and what not. I'm sure Orion will figure it out before me and than teach me!
Welcome to the forum, Joe . What a great looking GSD you have, looks like a fine dog, and I like his name, too. I'm glad you took him in. He obviously wasn't loved before you got him - collar grown into his neck??? Good grief....some people are so cruel. Thanks for turning his life around.
Thanks folks! Orion is the 3rd GSD we have adopted over the years. With each dog I learn a little bit more. He is the youngest and spunkiest we've had in the family yet (not in a bad way.) So far he is taking very well to learning the basic obedience stuff (I ordered Ed's video to teach me to teach him better.) The only major issue (bad issue) is his reaction to strange dogs. We're working on that one too. He is so smart sometimes it's spooky!
Anyway, glad to be on the forum. Looking forward to sponging up as much knowledge as I can.
Nice to meet some fellow Jerseyites! Judy your dog is great looking. Looks like a long hair GSD we rescued a few years ago that, sadly, only lived to be about 6. Another GSD from a bad owner that got dumped somewhere. Amazing how many are out there.
Tom, pleasure to meet you too! I've always had an interest in SAR work. Hope to meet you in person sometime and watch your dogs at work. If you ever need a "victim" reach out for me. I work in Woodbury, so I'm not too far away.
