Hi guys, I'm going to be buying a pup/young dog within the next few months and my two choices are the mal and the gsd. I want to compete in schutzhund at a high level(titling sch3 is high for me!) and know the mal and gsd are best for it. What are your opinions for someone like me who is relatively new to the game in regards to breed? I'm somewhat leaning towards the GSD because I hear they are more manageable in the house ONCE they mature. Please correct me if wrong because that might be a complete generalisation?
I never recommend a Malinois for someone that is new to working dogs. If you go that route, then make sure you know what you're getting yourself into first
There are many threads on this subject already though, do a search of this forum and you will find endless discussions about the pro's and con's of each breed.

GSD first....then research the Malinois and find some you can go watch and work with.
I researched for a year and a half, traveled to watch them work, and was blessed enough to get to handle a few before making my final decision.
For the first year there were times of "OMG what have I done?" but now I have two and a Dutchie so obviously I am "over the hump" and a die hard Mal/Dutchie supporter.
You HAVE to be ready to have a landshark for 10 to 15 yrs. And they do settle in the house, (if you duct tape them to the floor)
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter
Im trying to find a couple recent threads on the subject but I cant find them. I believe one of them addressed off switches in Terv's vs Malinois or something like that.
Mal vs. GSD is not just energy level, its far more than that, but those threads already cover it so I'm not gonna type it all out again Maybe someone else remembers the threads I refer to.
