first, i know this is my fault, please don't say it.
i had the dogs on tie outs while i took a nap. I have no AC in the house, and it was hotter inside than out, plus, there is little air circulation inside, so i had them in my back yard, in the tree cover.
i get up, i was only out for about 2 hours, and Capone's tie out was cut, and his tags laying on the ground(they clip on because i switch collars alot).
i have been all over the place looking for him, knocking on doors, i went to AC, and filed a police report.
i don't know what more to do. Save an officer going door to door searching the homes near me....
someone near me has him.

Mallory,
I can't get the search function to work for me but there is a thread started by Richard Pryor when his dog, Ruy, went missing.
There was a ton of good advice in that post about what you can/should do if your dog is missing or stolen. Maybe you can find it or someone else can link it?
I'm really sorry this happened
Found the link:

Richard's dog was lost, not stolen, but I think the advice and suggestions still apply.

I'd go door to door, NOT ALONE. I'd also walk along the street calling him.
TALK TO KIDS.
Kids know who has dogs, but no one asks them. It's how we found a missing dog last year. The dog had wandered off and a family took him in and wanted to keep him so they lied when the owner went door-to-door (NOT ALONE), but neighborhood kids said "Yeah, they have your dog."
Also, clear posters, car-level, sturdy, reward, photo of dog. Don't let them get battered or torn. Photos to area vets too if he has a chip.
Higher posters for pedestrians.

i have to find someone who speaks fluent spanish....most of my neighbors are hispanic, and don't speak any english(i have tried).
there is an apartment complex near my house, really run down, etc....
the officer is going to ask around there. someone near by has my dog.
capone has bolted out my door before, and he didn't leave my dead end street. He also went to play with my neighbors kids. he loves people, and will just go up to anyone.
also, he and bart don't get along, and had he gotten loose, he would have directly ran over to bart and they would have fought. i mean, seriously fought.
the cable was cut. plus, capone has never chewed on anything before.
i really hate myself.

I don't have any advice, but I wish you good luck in finding him. I don't know what I would do if it were one of my dogs. I don't think the person that took my dog would want to know.

i am livid. at myself, and the person that has him.
also, i can't do anything about it yet. Since the police are involved, i have to do a lot of waiting on them. It is over 100 degrees outside, full sun, and it's a sunday(AC and vet offices are closed), i can't go door to door without a translator, and i have a guy friend who is fluent, but he is out of town.
i am basically just sitting and waiting. and worrying, making flyers, and looking for change in my cushions so i can make copies of the flyer....

Oh, Mallory - I hope you find him. Don't beat yourself up. It is such a sad world when we can't even leave our dogs in their own yard for a brief while, without some dirtbag taking them. I will pray that you get him back safely, soon.

No you don't. Get the sentence Have you seen my missing dog? written on a photo of the dog and take it with you. NOT ALONE.
We had the same situation with a dog over in San Jose. None of us spoke Spanish but the neighborhood was Latino.
And kids are all bilingual.

Mallory, did this happen today?
Connie has an excellent point. If you need to run the phrase though an on line translator grab a friend and get out there door to door.
