Ok, so getting a 10 mth old pug tomorrow. Keeping in mind that I'm doing things right instead of how I thought I knew, I figure I'd throw myself on the mercy of those here, lol!
So, this is what we've got:
DVDs ordered from Leerburg (Pack and Family Pet, Basic Obedience)? CHECK.
Crate? CHECK
Found out where to get raw diet, so we can pick some up tomorrow? CHECK
I've never even heard of the raw diet until here. Turns out the breeder we're getting him from is also feeding raw, so it worked out, lol. (You guys wield a lot of influence, use your powers for good, mmmkay?)
Ok, considering his age, and new to us status, I'm thinking a flat collar. Any leash length recommend? I want to tether him to me, but not honestly sure how to do that (leash? Rope/line? Length?) and a bit concerned with the potential for one of the kids to get clotheslined with it
Anything I'm forgetting, in terms of early (aka DVDs arent here yet) training needs?
I use a 4 ft leash and a double snap (from a hardware store) on a belt loop. For walks I like a 6-8 ft leash.
I like to use freeze dried liver treats for training.
Thanks, Debbie. I'm approaching this as if I've never owned a dog prior, since I *thought* I knew what I was doing...and have since realized, not so much, lol! I never knew anything about 'pack structure' so I feel a bit blind. Wish I'd been able to get the DVDs a few months ago, but we weren't planning on getting a dog for another year or so, but this kinda fell in our laps, and we'd be stupid to not say yes because the timing wasn't what we planned, lol
