Carl, I have seen several members post here about prepping an area in the yard and laying a several inch thick layer of pea gravel, and teaching your dog to urinate in that spot.
I don't think there's too much you can do about urine killing your grass.
I was told if you take a pitcher of water mixed with about 1/4th of bleach and pour it on the urine spot, it won't kill the grass. There's also some products at Lowe's or home depot for that very problem.

I tried everything I could think of including pills that are supposed to help with grass kill.
My vet has a beautiful lawn in front of his office. Many many dogs use it as a toilet. I asked him what his secret was.
He told me to water the h**l out of it 2-3 times a day.
I have 3 dogs and started to give the back yard lawn 3 shots of water with the sprinklers at 2 minutes a cycle. The reason for 2 minutes is so it drys right off.
It was a huge improvement. All the old kill spots are almost regrown and no new ones are showing up.
I think you need automatic sprinklers for this to be a effective remedy.

Hi Susan - I actually worked with this stuff when I was doing a Calif. real estate project years ago. It's a pretty descent product although slightly off color as I recall.

Hi Lee, Recently when I was slightly lost while visiting Oklahoma, I ended up in a neighborhood where many of the lawns were painted. I had never heard of anything like this before. The weird thing is the green color that particular company used in this particular neighborhood was really off, or maybe the lawns had been painted a long time prior to my coming upon them. Either way, it looked bad, reaaaaaaaallllly bad! I'm sure, like anything else, there are reputable companies that do a great job, and then there are those fly-by-nighters who's thumbs are not only up their arses, but are a very odd shade of green to boot!
P.S. The company I linked to is not connected to the horrible dye jobs I saw in OK as far as I know, anyway.
