Anybody had to use them for an older dog before?
I wasn't sure if they worked well enough to think about.
Any insight/experience with them is greatly appreciated. We're treading new waters here.....literally.

I don't know about diapers, but kuranda makes a bed that works for dogs that are incontinent when sleeping. If you order the bed with the vinyl weave fabric the urine seeps though into a tray.

I use diapers for my bitch when she is in heat. The brand that PetSmart carries does not seem sufficient to hold any real amount of liquids, nor does it "seal" very well. Fine for a bitch in heat, but I wouldn't use them to contain urine.

Michael, is it an older female? Spaying a female in the early years can sometimes lead to incontinence when older, having to do with hormone deficiency. My last female dog had the same problem, the vet gave me hormone pills for her; it practically cured her overnight.
I got her when she was 9 yrs old. Her previous owner didn't want to give her the hormone pill cause it was "unnatural". Her solution to the incontinence was to give her away - after 9 yrs. In my mind, better 100 times over to give the hormone pill.
The pills are easier on the dog, easier on the owner, and eliminates any need for messing with diapers.

Thats exactly what I've been looking for! Right now we keep incontinence pads on her bed. This isn't an everyday thing, but before the pads she would soak her beds. We alternated 2 'til we wised up. Thanks!

Thats what I was afraid of. Someone mentioned that my vet might have access to a better kind or know of a better kind from client's experience. She just dribbles. The mess is a matter of how long it takes for her to notice. I'm wondering if diapers would be a good thing or a bad thing, now. It might keep her from noticing 'til she has emptied alot more of her bladder than she does now. Then again, I think too much.

Yes, she is an older female. Lucky 13. She was spayed at about 7 years of age. I have to go to the vet tomorrow, so I will run this past him and see if he thinks it would help her in particular. He had said before it was probably old age. He hadn't heard of the CHF meds Sarah Morris recommended, but felt they were a great idea after he researched them. Medicating for incontinence might be the same thing. Luckily, he's one of the good vets that isn't too proud to say he hasn't heard of something and then go look into it.
Thanks everybody for the suggestions.

If it is in fact just a small amount of dribbling, then a slight modification to the "PetSmart" diapers could indeed work for you.
Toss the flimsy liners that they come with, and go for a walk down the (human) feminine hygiene isle at the grocery store. Buy the ‘heavy’ variety and use those instead. They are thicker and will create a little more of a ‘seal’ for her while being way more absorbent. Dispose of them like you would a baby diaper and change them as regularly as needed to keep her dry. (Take them off before letting her out to really potty&hellip I bought two diapers for an incontinent foster I had and would switch them out to wash one at a time; it worked out fairly well.
If it is just while she is asleep, then the bed sounds like a much more convenient solution and if the hormones work, then even better!! But I liked the diapers for the walking around drips that were just annoying…
Just my experience.
Good luck with her!

Thanks for the tip. We go outside often, so the thicker pads would give us time to change pads before she soaked one.
For anyone who has dealt with this before, how did it start for your dogs?
Right now, she only does this about once a month, for a day or two. Its only happened consistently for about 3 or 4 months. Maybe longer, but I'm not sure.
Yesterday, I have no idea how many little puddles my wife and I cleaned up. Then ALL last night and ALL day today, she doesn't have a single problem.

Every dogs reaction could be different, but out of curiousity how did your's take to wearing those?
Also, you say, "can be incontinent". Is she like my dog, in that this isn't an everyday problem, but often enough to have a solution on hand?
I ask because I'm trying to get a feel for how this progresses.
Thanks for the recommendation!
