Hi everyone! I have been kind of scarce on here lately I know. I have been totally consumed with things in my life, including adding a new member to my family! I would like to introduce Meile, a female Rhodesian Ridgeback who is now 12 weeks old! Her name is pronounced like Mayee-la and is Lithuanian. It means Love and fits her, she is a snuggle bunny.
She is from Europe, Slovakia, and was imported for show and hopefully someday breeding. She is a liver nose and I think quite gorgeous! But then, I could be biased. She is eating her RAW no trouble at all and doing great on it.
Leonidas is smitten with her already. I am careful to make sure they are getting alone time and training. So far hers consists of walking nice on a leash, stacking and standing. I know this kind of training isn't primary to this list, but I would appreciate any pointers as this is my first dog that will be shown in conformation and I don't want to screw it up.
I found this site years ago when I thought I wanted to do conformation with Quinn. I know that the subjects there are Dobes, but the info appears to be sound. Very positive and fun way to train.

Thanks guys! I forgot it was my b day...who counts after 30...
Here eyes, unfortunately won't stay green. Livers are born with blue eyes, they turn green and as they mature will end up being amber in color. So I have to enjoy them while I can.
Here is the video Mike mentioned if you're interested...
I haven't been around much lately either (with MUCH regret, it is sadly NOT because I have a new puppy! ) but I happened to be checking in today and when I saw this post I just HAD to say... CONGRATULATIONS!!! And what a gorgeous little girl Meile is - she looks like a bundle of crazy feisty girlyness too, so I can just imagine how in love Leonidas must be!!
I'm sure you'll be a pro at show training in no time, and I wish you lots of luck with her in the ring. PLUS - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Happy birthday and what a beautiful puppy. Excuse my ignorance but I didn't know that RR's could be genetically black or liver/red. I thought they only came in black.
Have fun on the show circuit with her - here's to a great birthday and a "Best puppy"
Excuse my ignorance but I didn't know that RR's could be genetically black or liver/red. I thought they only came in black.
Black nose and liver nose are both accepted colorations in RRs - COAT colors, according to breed standard, should only be in the light wheaten, red to red wheaten range, though very rarely a genetic throwback will occur: http://kalaharirr.tripod.com/oddcolors.html
Shody's pup is not only a livernose, but she has some gorgeous, vibrantly red wheaten coated dogs in her pedigree, so she should grow into a real stunner... (nope, not jealous at all! )
