Does anyone ever put "service" bandana's on their dog to avoid having to repeat the "he doesn't like to be pet..no really, he doesn't like to pet!" conversations? Or is that really bad form like using a Blue Handicap Card for parking when you have no disability??
We just got our 4 yo GSD a month ago and he is AMAZING!!! He is beautiful, smart, FUN, listens well, eager to please (not a big cuddler but that's ok.. ) We take him with us everywhere and HE does great but I can't believe how many people want to reach out and touch him. If you approach him slowly with your and extend he sniffs and then pretty much that's it..and that's ok. But some people want more from him and they get into his space and try to pet him. We tell people, "he doesn't like to be pet by strangers" and yet some people still insist "Oh it's ok...I had a GSD" or "Ok it's ok...I'm a dog person" and try again to get his attention.
Can we use a bandana to just avoid the constant attempts at people to touch Jet so we can all just go to coffee, walk down the street without hassle? or is it my job as a good parent to just keep fending off poeple? Thanks!
Got it!! Ok thank you so much. I thought that was probably not in good form but I just wasn't sure.
I will definintely get him a working dog bandana. Thank you!!
I got a Leerburg padded harness vest with an "In Training" patch for my GSD (you can see one at http://www.leerburg.com/759.htm). I got one in blaze orange so it doubles as a safety vest when we are hiking during the hunting season, and I reckon we are always in training so it doesn't misrepresent him in any way! When we go out without the vest, people do ask to pet him - which is not really a problem, as he is a very calm and friendly dog. But I have noticed that when he has the vest on, people don't ask to pet him, although they do sometimes ask what he is in training for.
