it gets more and more disappointing.
Wellness is made by Menu foods. just found that out.
and Canidae has changed their formula, already making dogs sick, and they are selling to Diamond foods in the near future.
just a heads up, i know some people on here feed canidae, not sure about the wellness.....
good time to switch to raw if you haven't already.

Isn't that the truth. You would think that spending 50.00 or more for a bag of food that the food would be good. I have been told that Solid Gold is a good food but you should add the supplements, if you can't feed raw. Has anyone had experience with this brand,( they just started selling it in Mo. this past year). I am switching to raw, however I like to tell people a dog food to buy, if they don't feed raw.

WHAT?!!!!!!! I feed Canidae! Have since he was a pup!!!! OMG I need to look more into this. I just recently bought a brand new bag of food, and in thinking about it, he hasn't finished the whole meal most of the times I've fed him (definately not like him), AND he's had the runs!!!!!

I'd point them to Ed/Cindy's list here and suggest they look at the forum as well, 'cuz they can pick up some other really good ideas on feeding, training, obedience, vaccinations, and who knows what else.

Canidae IS on that list as a decent food. I know in my heart feeding "real" food is the best way to go, I just haven't taken the time to investigate as thoroughly as I'd want to. I've been trying to really read up on training stuff, I've let the health stuff slip by the wayside. ARGH!

Here is the link to the Canidae formula change.
http://www.canidae.com/new-formulas.html
Basically the formula change is that they are diversifying their grains--used to be just rice but now they are using rice, barley, millet, peas. When pet food manufactures do this they can add more grains as each individual grain does not weigh more than the meat preceding it.
Not being a someone who believes dogs need grains as part of a healthy diet, the ingredient list seems very heavy on the grains to me. My thought is the total grain content is most likely higher than the total meat content.

I have been told that Solid Gold is a good food but you should add the supplements, if you can't feed raw.
personally, my dogs have eaten solid gold, but only the wolfking formula, and they have done well.....weird though, they had white poops on that just like when they eat raw....
i also know people whos dogs have not done well on solid gold, but nothing bad, the dogs just didn't switch well to it.
i only ever added vit C, E and salmon oil....
solid gold is a complete dogfood, i don't see why you should have to add anything else....
