I bought some 1 lb bags of rabbit tripe/intestines with stomach contents and am wondering if I can just feed my dogs the whole one pound at a time or is that too much "gut stuff" at once? I'm hoping I can because I really dont want to have to get them out and cut them up into smaller portions (I get kinda grossed out about that)I'd like to just cut the bag open and dump it in their bowl
also, I just started making my own kiefer and was wondering how many times a week I can give it to my dogs and what amounts are good to give of it? (I have 3 male GSD between 85 & 100lbs)

I give my dog roughly 1 cup of kiefer every day. Some dogs may need to work up gradually to larger amounts of kiefer or yogurt.

Sorry, I've never fed rabbit tripe, so can only speak of experience with beef tripe. I ASS-U-ME they have to be similar.
With beef, it is fine to feed the whole meal in tripe. Also assuming your dogs have shown bowel tolerance to tripe. If you question your dogs ability to stomach it, you may want to feed it the first time with something else.
Personally, I would have no problem with my dog trying a whole meals worth. If they end up with diarrhea, you'll obviously need to back off and go slow.
You can kinda' judge by your dog's previous experiences to new food. Some dogs need time, some take new food as if it was old news.
Sorry that is so open ended. Hope it helps a little.

On butchering day my dogs get only guts for their meal and I don't see any problems.

Even though tripe is technically an organ, it can be fed as a muscle.
On its own, even for many consecutive days, it produces wonderful little poos. Not like what you would get if you fed, say, beef heart for many consecutive days.
Maybe someone can explain why this is.
Because of the Ca:Ph?
Grass fibers?
It really is a different animal, for lack of a better term.

I give my dog 1/3 cup of kefir everyday in her morning meal.
I would also think giving the whole rabbit tripe/intestines at once wouldn't be much of an issue. I have fed a whole meal of beef tripe to my dog at times when my thawing schedule has been alittle off. She seemed to enjoy it and I don't recall it causing any issues with her bowel movement afterwards.

Thanks for the replies, I just havent really feed whole guts before, just ground up beef tripe so I wasnt sure if it was ok and I guess it just seems kinda gross but I have to remember they are dogs!!
Also, those of you who make kiefer, is it suppose to be kinda runny? The couple batches I've made are pretty runny, not like the consistency of yogurt at all.

Yes it's runny, if you leave it at room temp too long you get kefir cheese, then you have to pick the grains out with your fingers. The runny stuff is much easier, just pour the kefir off the top and add more milk to the grains.

The first time I fed tripe I felt guilty for even offering it to my dog. No living being could want to eat something like that. Needless to say, I was over my guilt after I saw the look of extreme joy he gave me when I handed the tripe to him.
Does all tripe smell equal?

You're a gentleman, Mike.
As with all smelly things, I simply open the back door and hurl it into the yard. Sort of like slopping a pig.
I guess I'm fortunate I have no neighbors behind me to see me do this.
