Okay, I have a neighbor that is a complete and total jerk/idiot. I took my 9 week old puppy outside with me to clean his crate. As soon as I turned my water hose on my dog started barking, pouncing, and stalking the stream of water. When I saw he was having fun and not scared I played with him. Between washing his crate and playing with him we were outside for 10 minutes. 20 minutes later animal control is at my door to alert me that someone has called and gave me a pamphlet on a "nuisance dog". I knew who it was because the same neighbor drove me crazy when I first got my hound years ago.
I won't get into the details of what I said to this guy because it would be about 2 pages but I basically told him he was an unreasonable jerk. I mean the bark on a 9 week old puppy is minimal and I was PLAYING with him. He even told the cops I was outside with the dog...ridiculous...that means he saw us playing.
I have the pack structure DVD and 8 weeks to 8 months, do any of you know if how to stop your dog from barking is on one of the other DVDs? I am going to let my dog bark if he is playing, I will not stifle that but if he is doing it for some other reason I would like to be able to tell him to stop.
Teach the dog that the "out" command applies to barking as well as things in his mouth. Or, invent a new command if need be.
Personally, I have one catch all sound that I use to tell my dog, "hey, whatever the hell you're doing, knock it off".
Another option, is just recall the dog when it's barking. It'll stop as soon as you call it, and you aren't actually correcting for barking, you're just giving a different command.
