Hi all
When I am doing the focus thing with the ball, my pupper usually is pretty good, but is beginning to get very impatient. He is now jumping on me to get it. During drive play, he doesn't just grab the tug/ball with his mouth, he is also leaping up on me with his hands.
I don't want to scare him, and I think this is fruitful perhaps for later defense? but I need to re-focus him-pupper is able to get super-cranked in a hurry, it's the relaxing/focusing without dampening him that I need.
I have been keeping the play toys away from him when we are not playing (he has bones and ropes to pass time) and now when he sees the toy come out, he hits the roof. Focus has been MUCH harder.
Hi Alex, you just need to make the connection between sitting and the reward. Under no circumstances let him have the toy when he is jumping. That only teaches him that jumping brings sucess.
Ask for a sit, and as soon as his butt hits the ground drop the toy. Then slowly increase the time between the but hitting and the dropping. He will try to get it by jumping, but you have to be smarter
Did you ever get the tape? There is a large section dealing with this exact problem.
(oh, and about suicide rabbits... I saw a rabbit jump into a dog's mouth the other night. It was quite the sight to see. I only wish I had it on tape to send to Bernhard)
Alex
Being the nice guy that I am, I agree with all that Denna said. I would also make use of the " into my arms" drill that is on Bernards tape. It really worked wonders on my female.
ah. cheapskate that I am, I see that purchasing the tape is at last unavoidable. I am now slinking over to the buy tapes section...whimper...how many boxes of wine will this cost me?
Oh heck. I am sure I will learn much good stuff.

I had to laugh when I read that. When I groomed for a living I used to ask "how many dogs do I have to do to buy that"
It is well worth the investment. I think the video will answer a lot of your questions.
once you watch the video, all the stuff that took place at the seminar will make more sense too!!
(suicide rabbits and wine in a box......who'd have thought we could all learn so much at a dog training seminar)
