And if so, for what? I finished watching the DVD Ed made on Pet Owners and E-collars, and he doesn't mention the pager button at all in the video. I just assume he doesn't use it, but wondered if anyone else does, and for what? As it stands now, with what I've watched/read about e-collars, it sounds like I'll only be using the "nick" button, but I just wondered if anyone finds a use for the "pager" button, and if so, for what?
I use it as a recall button, also, and when we were working with a trainer she taught us this. It's a different stim (vibration, rather than e-stim) so it's distinguishable. My dog responds immediately to it. The nick I use as a correction. Her philosophy was that the thing has a mile long radius (or something like that) and if the dog is out of site that's always a way you have to recall the dog, even if he's too far away to hear your voice calling him. Kind of a safety precaution (not that my dog is ever that far away, but could happen!)
Dear Malorie: Kodee is sure looking beautiful,or handsome I mean!
I use the pager button with Bindi because she is very sensitive and that is all she needs. With Cody, it might end up that I have to use the stimulous button. I use it to correct behavior such as not coming when off leash, or when Bindi runs to the fence and barks at nothing. So far it has worked great.
God bless you.
I use the pager button. For Hans, it is like a recall. He drops what he is doing and comes to me. I didn't teach this, he just did it the first time I hit the pager button and he continues to treat it like a recall.
The only time I use the E collar is for recall when she is distant and distracted by something at the dog park. I have tried using the vibrate on my Dogtra 200 and I find that my dog immediately reacts to the slightest tap of the vibrate button and heads towards me. Just personally, I prefer that to having to stim the dog , and the reaction seems much quicker.
