How much total time per day should I spend training the little Yogi-meister? I don't want to overdo it and he isn't complaining but it seems like it starts to add up after a while. 3x10min obedience sessions, 3x3min drive work sessions plus I need to add tracking too. I just want to make sure I don't burn him out. Also, how long do I need to wait between sessions? Thanks.

Walt, does he seem like he is losing focus? You could try doing obedience M,W,F drive Tuesdays and Thursdays. I personally would wait a little bit longer to start the tracking. Try it in about two months if the rest of his training is going smoothly.

When you say 10 minutes of obedience work, what's a typical session consist of? Guess what I mean is, my "obedience" is really so energized with prey work (drive building), that it really is all combined. People who use a lot of food in their obedience would need separate play sessions, I guess.
He doesn't lose interest, seems to still want more. I'm using food and the training session just consists of doing a command followed by a treat and praise. I really just started a set schedule this week. Until now it was just occasional sessions every few days (using my week away from school to start sticking to a schedule, plus I've got a lighter load this summer so I'll have more time). He does well with "sit" and "down" so I've just been going from one to the other while training and then moving some and doing "here" so he doesn't just sit in one spot since I thought that would bore him. None of these are new commands and he is really doing well, in fact (I have to brag a little!) I just got home from a friends house where I took Yogi and while he was lying in the shade (it's hot this week and we were talking outside) I got him to come to me , then sit and then down. I was proud of the little guy!

Walt, start your Tracking ASAP. These training session should be no pressure on the pup. This is something a pup will do with pleasure. No corrections. Make it fun and then more fun. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I'de rather see you do the OB later then the Tracking. Getting a good foundation in Tracking at a early age is a big advantage. More time is spent with a young pup Tracking to obtain the desired results then OB. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
