Hi everyone, i am from australia so im not sure if this will help me out at all but i thought it is worth a try.
i am planning to get a working line dobermann puppy in about 12 top 24 months and am having alot of trouble with finding a good breeder, i am not able to import as i do not have the money.
there are three major working breeders in Aus they are Von Roth, Von Forell and Von Liston (Von Forell is also a GSD breeder)
and would like to know if anyone knows anything at all about these breeders, good, bad anything that may help me to choose which one to get a pup from.
and i would also like to know how it is you guys choose which pup is perfect for you??
thanks everyone in advance for any help.
Jess

You want a working Dobe, for anything specific? Are their dogs titled in the type of work you want to do? Can you see videos of them working, or go see the dogs in person? Does the breeder do health checks specific to the breed?

i'd like to get into Schutzhund or dog sport.
unfortunalty there has never been a sch 111 dobe born and bred in Aus, and 98% with titles were all imported.
thanks greatly for your help.

I am completely new to this board, but I have been reading for awhile. First off, I currently own and train (Schutzhund) a 14m/o American Bulldog male and a 6 m/o Rottweiler male. I have owned and trained mostly GSDs.
I wanted to comment on this post because I might be able to help someone looking for a working dobe. All the years that I have spent aroud the sport, a good working dobe is a rarity. We have a club member that has bitch that is one of the strongest young Dobe (or GSD or Rott for that matter) bitches that I have seen. I began to ask about this dog, because strong working dobes are a rarity. She surprised (unerstated) me by saying that the dog was from top show lines. She went on to say that the breeder still has a "pup" (~12mos old)that she has been searching for the right/working home because it has similar drive to dog that belongs to our club. She has had a hard time placing the dog, because most "show" people aren't "equipped" to deal with a strong working dog and she wanted to ensure that the dog ended up in the right home. Either PM or email me if you'd like to be put in touch with the breeder. Expect to be fully interviewed/qualified if you proceed further into the buying process. I have no idea on price, however, I don't expect that it will be cheap.
Note: I am not affiliated with the breeder, have never met he breeder. My interest is simply to help someone looking to find a dog that meets their requirements and help a dog find a home that it can thrive in.

Hello Jess,
Nice to see people from Australia are still committed to the true working Dobermans. I actually own a Doberman from a working Doberman breeder in Australia which is from Von Liston Kennels, they are based in Melbourne (took me some time to find the correct pup, but was well worth the wait). What a super dog he is, and is more than I expected as he keeps surprising me on a daily basis. I have just join up at our local dog training centre her in WA and all the members just adore him. But I must add for a young pup he is well sure of himself. During the nights should he hear any strange noises outside he would have his head through the blinds at the window and start barking if someone is there which I love which also tells me he is well and truly in the right direction to becoming the Doberman I have been seeking. (I must also admit he make my wife and kids feel safe at home which I love because the area I live in isn’t really the safest but also lets me know my family are well protected in a way when I’m away). I don’t know the reasons for your requirements to obtain a Doberman are but should you require a Doberman I would also consider Von Liston Kennels.
Best of luck
Merrell.

Hello to all dobermann lovers and breeders,
i was reading on here, and really cannot belive what i read about some breeders,it really made me sick of these ppl who wrote bad words about other breeders, the funniest thing in this, they call true breeders/importers/trainners bad breeders, and shit kennels thier name, and they call ppl that never imported or trained or handled a dog on a leach in thier life top breeders, such as liston kennels,i have been around dobermann for more than 14 years now and i had bought dogs from von hellas and the other breeder chienloup kennels, after i went to the feild and saw some of thier dogs working in security and ipo spots, and there is even clips of thier dogs training on youtube, with top trainer from germany, reminding all dobermann lovers that the kennels named above has bought or owned adog from the other kennel, lol, its silly how the way of some ppl said ,thier dogs need to be rehomed,i bet that, that person have been refused to be sold a dog from both kennels (hellas& chienloup) that why they are saying bad things about them ,by the way i know that both kennels were the first to DNA thier dogs in this country . and they do import dogs ,not put pics saying is a dog imported from overseas ,when its breed in aust .!!!!!!!!!so when you want to buy a puppy ,ask to see the sire ,the dam , if possible any relitive as well ,and make sure its not a back yard breeder ,even if they do have a kennels prefix. good luck

Hi Joane,
The reason all the drama happened cause J was REFUSED politely she cannot have the dog. Look at the cop out von helas copped it.
Funny thing i read another forum some where where the most loved kennel went in partnership with and can produce one of the best woring dog in the world. I just LMAO . The poor guy went broke. NOW few people have rang Von hellas to ask his help as he was the main importer for queston. He sold queston years ago, he hates getting involved in politics , that the reason he doesnt go to train his dogs with others. All it is this guy his hear. He trains his owns dogs with another guy at his own place ( smart guy) and if people who bought puppy from him is happy to guide them and train there dogs FOR FREE>
You see his new import SCH111, IPO111 and GHP 111. in quarantine now would love to go and see that dog. You seriously thing the money invested in that he will mis treat is dogs I DONT THINK SO> it is all because the breeders only 2 are JEALOUS. thats all. If these forums you have freedon of speech and can say thing or put the copied emails the documents von hellas has will freak out how these people who talk rubbish about others. This is just to prove it to world how people advertise other kennels.
If you are training dogs in thongs and promise the breeders to buy dogs overseas and when time comes u pull out....... how slack.... MY Advise. Go and see the DOG personally. Its okay to see the advertisement but always make your own personal judgement. As i read in the the ADVERTISMENTS 100 % EUROPEAN DOG but the bitch is AUSTRALIAN wat the??
