Just wondering if anyone else noticed a drop in lbs per bag (with a increase in cost) of dog food. I buy Innova Evo Reduced Fat, I swore this was a 33 lb bag before, now it is 28.6 lbs. I might be confusing this with another brand, but their food was a 4 week supply it's down to only a 3 week supply.
I'm just curious if anyone else noticed it in this brand or others. Thanks.

The last time I knew it was a 33 lb bag. Lots of stuff is going smaller with the same price.

Many of the high end brands are doing this. I belong to an online group of pet industry folks and they have all been commenting how all the brands are doing this. Very annoying to say the least. I don't sell food, but have many clients complaining about the costs going up. I think most of my clients would have preferred to pay more for the same amount of food since they now have to make more trips to go get food.

My Canidae was 40lb, the last bag I bought (same price, I think) is 35lbs. They changed the formula too, the kibbles are different-looking (and so are my dogs' poops, they are a gross mustard colour now)
I was going to switch to Innova because of this but, now I know they've reduced their size too??
You know, I would have rather had them just increase the price, because now I will have to shop more often.
Oh I just noticed Annette said the same thing.

Good to know I'm not the only one upset over this. I had to ask the sales clerk at the feed store to have 2 bags out at a time (they only order one large bag to have in stock). I walk there with a cart (no car) to go pick it up. I'd rather only have to go there 1 time a month instead of two.

Angela,
Canidae also switched their processing plant to Diamond. We fed Canidae for almost 2 years. When I got the heads up regarding the switch we changed over to Evanger's.
I hated to switch from Canidae as our dogs did so well on it for so long, but I couldn't go with a food made at Diamond. Canidae swore up and down that the formula would stay the same and that they are only using Diamond's facilities but they are still using their staff and their formula, etc. I decided to err on the side of caution and switch anyway. It was only a few weeks before I started hearing from others that they had issues with the food like you seem to be having.

I guarantee you this formula is not the same no matter what the bag says.
I have bought my last bag of Canidae. Thanks for the heads up!

Actually the Canidae bag is bigger (and pricier). I just purchased another bag of Canidae for my old guys who are not on raw and the bag was 44 pounds. Have not had any issues with the new recipe but I am keeping an eye on my guys just in case.

Canidae HAS changed their formula, and you ought to complain to where ever you buy your pet food if they did not tell you that. I have had print-outs available about the Canidae/Felidae formula changes in the pet store I work at for over a month. The formula changed, the kibble shape/appearance changed, and the packaging is in the process of changing. This is why some of you may have noticed less Canidae on the shelves at your local pet store -- a lot of it is backordered as they try to parcel out the new packages in some semblance of order. We have a "call-ahead" program now for Canidae where customers phone in and ask if we have it, and we hold a bag for them for 24 hours so they won't come in and find it gone. It's crazy.
EVO has been a 28.6 pounder for awhile. Straight-up Innova comes in 33# bags. None of the brands are uniform (because it makes you have to work harder to figure out which is more expensive). You will see anything from 26# to 40# as a company's "large bag".
For that matter, anyone currently feeding Timberwolf would be advised to get the hell off it at all costs. It just went up -- kid you not, wholesale pricing -- 25%. This translates to a $9 price increase being passed onto the consumer for our 15# bags. All dog food is going up but Timberwolf decided to capitalize on this and remain the most expensive dog food on the market because they consider themselves "ultra-premium". (Their parent company sent us a fax when we inquired about the price hike, and that's basically the reason for the price increase. They want to stay "higher-end", so they can't be cheap.)

I noticed the same thing... I switched from Canidae to Natural Balance about 3 months ago (because of the above mentioned issues) but am still trying to decide if this is what I want to keep them on. I guess I'm not quite satisfied- plus I found a new petstore that carries almost all of the brands mentioned here (whereas before I was having a hard time even finding canidae). It's a hard decision when they eat so much, lol. Dog food gets awfully expensive!
