Ok so this really sucks but it is a reality for us....We have a Great GSD that is 9 months old and we just found out that he has a cancer in his mouth. It is benign so that is good but it is a fairly bad case. Unfortunately his Schutzhund days are over. And he was very good at it.
I am looking for someone that might have had the surgery done to their dog and if it is worth it in the long run. We have developed a bond with him but we are looking to do what is best for him.
Any info or help would be great or anybody I can talk with would be helpful also...
I think what you are running into is extremely rare.
Benign means it is not cancer. Neoplasia is just a term for abnormal growth. A tumor. Tumors are not always cancerous. I had/have a brain tumor, but not cancer. Even after excision, it may return.
At any rate, depending on location and extent excision may be the only choice. Does it interfere with eating or breathing? How was it discovered? It is sad to hear of such a thing in such a young dog.

I have no personal experience with this kind of thing but I do want to say that my heart goes out to you and your pup. It's just awful hearing bad news of any kind, and it's especially devastating when it's a very young dog.
The only advice I can offer is if you haven't already gotten a second opinion, ideally with a specialist, you should do so. I would also consider making an appointment at the best vet school/hospital closest to you. When a situation is unusual or extreme I know I feel better placing myself in the hands of people who have seen it all and have dealt with a problem often.
