Cindy and I own and train our how horses. It's something we have come to love and learn from.
When you train a horse to move sideways - it's called side passing. The following video brings new meaning to the usefulness of side passing. It's also one of the best trained horses I have ever seen.
That is absolutely a stunning display of horsemanship. I am not a fan of bull fighting either but it is amazing to see skills such as those put to use.
It's funny, I remember as a kid bullfights used to be on television and I'd watch them and admire the bullfighters. Now I find it really hard to watch. The horse and rider are amazing though.
Balance, coordination, conditioning, suppleness, courage, trust, control, fluidity, responsiveness are all words that come to mind when I watch this video. The epitome of partnership between a horse and rider and what we all strive for. WOW!
The stabbing part sucks. I do know that in some areas there is a push to use velcro and paint tipped sticks instead. I hope this catches on.
Thank you for sharing this video. Now I gotta go ride!
I remember another video you posted awhile back of a trainer who worked his horse with no halter etc and it was beautiful to watch, almost a dance. Do you still have that? I would love to see it again.
This is a horse trained in dressage to a high degree, who's training is put to practical (though admittedly icky) use. It's seeing this level of training, athleticism and elastic movement that keeps dressage my favorite equine sport. The opening of the video with the lovely canter half pass, the lightness of the forehand and the beautiful pirouettes on the haunches, all dressage movements, executed with the flair that only the Spanish horses seem to manage (think of the Lipizzaners at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna). What a beautiful horse.
This training is very, very old and was originally intended for military horses. It is very deeply rooted in tradition with much respect for the horse. AWESOME example in this video.
