Looks like Animal Planet is going to have a new show starting this fall. K-9 Cops. I hope it's good, I plan to watch it, at least the first show to see how it is.
It's real . They have been filmimg us since May . They left just before the Republican National Convention but are back now filmimg some more .
The folks here filming it told me Animal Planet is very excited about this new series . They said it was the first time Animal Planet gave the ok for a series after only seeing a very rough cut first episode . Not only did they like it but they went from wanting 10 episodes to 15 . This is the same production company that does Animal Cops . Many of the camera and sound guys were from Animal Cops .
They rode along with all 21 members of our K9 Unit and also filmed some of our 10 week Training Course for new K9's from around the 5 state area.
Is Animal Planet running commercials for this? I hadn't heard they have yet until reading this .
Cool! I'll keep an eye out for this when it finally reaches the UK, usually a few months later.
We had a similar sounding series here, called "Send In The Dogs". It followed various K9 units around the country doing all aspects of K9 work, including drugs searches and body recovery as well as the usual public order/criminal stuff.
For a change, it was quite a good series, even showing some behind the scenes stuff - although they did overuse the phrase 'Land-Shark' a bit!
What was in the Animal Planet clip? Ooh I HATE having to wait for good programs!
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.
The production company is from the UK . They are really good guys . According to them the UK series will be an additional 10-15 minutes longer since you guys are lucky and don't have to deal with commercials .
Jim, the commercials for the show have been advertised a little. Not too much. It's part of a clip that shows a few different shows beginning in the fall. All of the shows look pretty interesting actually.
Jim, sounds like it will most definitely be a show worth watching. I don't know when it will debut, though. It doesn't even say on the Animal Planet website. Just that it will be coming this Fall.
I sure hope people enjoy it . All of us K9 Handlers put ourselves out there under a microscope . We are all proud of our K9 Unit and have worked hard to continue it's success .I know they captured many exciting , dangerous and some hard to watch incidents . They also are showing some of the boring things we do on the job . They also show some of the officers lives outside the job .
Last I heard it was to be 1 hour episodes airing in November .
