Just adopted a 8 week old male mal. I have been told that the breeders guarantee on both dogs testis to drop. I'd hate to find out this prospect has the gene. Out of curiosity how can you tell if a pup has or is going to drop them. this is a bit gross but i googled this topic and it took me to all kinds of crazy stuff.. Anyway. when I scratch his belly I have noticed two round things on the side of his penis. Are these them or should they be in the scrotum. This dog has alot going for it but I'd be more reasurred knowing.. thx in advance.

My dog's testicles are completely down and I sometimes see those two round things on either side of his penis, too. I don't know what it is but I think it's normal.
Those are the things that keep the males penis inside of the female while mating. The vaginal track would contract behind them and hold on to the male. Without those, there would be no “tie.”
It is a sign that the dog is aroused, excited, happy, or any other word that you might use to describe a “happy” dog. Don’t be offended by them though, just like a little boy, it can happen in completely nonsexual moments of excitement. My male gets them regularly when I get home from work.
Do be aware though, that should the foreskin get stuck behind them, it can be uncomfortable and take a while to ease, but it usually will on its own. I had a friend rush her dog to the vet, and get a bunch of looks from the staff there…
Hum.. So I know what those are Im still left wondering what to look for to make sure my 8 week male is developing normally? Will there be balls in his scrotum? His scrotum is nearly non existant at this point.
At 8 weeks, I would not be concerned. Yes, you can see/feel very small testicles that will drop down and often go right back up. Some dogs will drop earlier and then stay down; others will play peek-a-boo for a while.
The scrotum will be small as well, as there is nothing in there regularly to hold its shape. You would be more likely to see something while he is standing and relaxed, but that may be a hard time to pin point with a Mal!
All in all, there is little to worry about at this age; he just sounds shy in that department. Actually, I would not even worry until four or five months. At that point, if nothing has presented its self, you might consider having a vet check him out.
Good luck with your new pup! I am sure he is a blast!
Theres no way of knowing. Just wait it out and see. Some dogs will drop one and not their second till as late as 18 months old, but generally by 6 months old they will both drop, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. You'll just have to wait just like everyone else in the world
