Last night, for the first time my cane corso puppy who is not altered sat down and just started peeing while he was seated. Is this just a freak occurence or does it have something to do with his hormones coming in? He was outside when it happenend and when I notice it I got him up and took him over to "piddle" and he did. Any thoughts? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Chrissy,
It would be a good idea to have your vet check him for an infection, but from the boy dogs I've met, I think it's not uncommon at a certain age for them to just occasionally dribble or even pee. My guy did lots of walking around with a steady leak as a youngster, and for a while when he was about 8-to 10 months old would squirt a bit when he was startled or excited. I did have him checked out-nothing wrong physically-I think it's something they just do. Have him checked to ease your mind and be sure though.
Not that this means anything-but I have noticed that my friends with bully breeds deal with lots more leakage than I did. Had a year old neutered amstaff come snuggle me to sleep on the sofa, then let loose with a full bladder all over the place-looked like he had clue it was coming. Nothing wrong with him-just lost his shut-off valve a few times around that age.
Thanks for the info. When if happened he was excited. I'll keep my eye on him, everything seems normal because he is still going regularly and it was the first time it happened. Did the neutering help the problem?
Hey Chrissy
I am unsure that neutering helps this. Of all the young males I've seen do it, my current Puppyman is the only one who was intact. A matter of growing out of it, I suspect. But give his urine a sniff next time and see if it smells bad-vet might give you something, (what is it-gen something...an antibiotic)-if he has a real problem, or maybe try some acidophilus in his diet to calm down bacteria levels.
