I have a GSD mix who, I believe is having an allergic reaction to her dogfood. I have read some recommendations about what dog foods would be a good alternative, but they all seem to come from someone who will profit from the purchase, so I am wondering what other dog owners would advise feeding your dog. I have thought about a raw and natural diet, but I would rather see what other options are out there. We have changed to all natural treats. Thanks for any advice.

A lot of people here talk pretty highly of Orijen. Never used it, though.
I fed mine Nature's Variety grain free food for a little while before we switched to raw. I was happy with it.

Your gut instinct to feed raw is correct.
However, while you are reading and becoming comfortable with the concept of raw, and seeking out good sources of meat for your dog, here are a few good "kibble" resources:
Leerburg has an article about quality kibble, here:
http://leerburg.com/all-natural%20kibble.htm
Also, this website has a great breakdown of virtually every kibble under the sun. I'd stick with the 5+ star foods.

My wife and I have decided we're going to feed Bosco and Layla a raw diet. We bought from the Leerburg site, the turkey Honest Kitchen. I think that my wife wants to write here but, well, I'll kinda beat her to it. :-)
We'd like information as to exactly, more or less, how to add to the Honest Kitchen food with raw chicken or other types of meat protein. Amounts, kinds of protein, things like that.
Any and all ideas are very gratefully appreciated.

On the label, back of the bucket, right column, end, "Serving Recommendations" tells how to add 1/2 to one cup for each cup of THK.

Oh, kinds of protein:
Up to you. Are you going to gradually move away from the THK or do you plan to keep the THK with raw added?
(THK is one of the commercial foods that are made to add raw to; that is, it is not baked to the point of looong digestion time like kibble is. JMO. It's dehydrated at low temperatures.)
If you have more questions, please start a new thread. This is a hijack.

Good kibbles IMO: (these are grain-free, which is a good thing, especially if your dog has allergy problems)
EVO
Orijen
Wellness CORE
I alternate between these 3 and raw and I don't see much difference between them (the kibbles, that is...)
They are pricey compared to other kibbles but you will use less than a kibble that has grains. I feed my 90 lb bullmastiff mix slightly under 3 cups per day (or 1 1/2 cups per day plus 1 meal raw)

It's good to switch to a low- (preferably no-) grain food.
Fresh food = even better.
But I want to point out that food allergies are the least common of canine allergies, although better food will give the dog a stronger immune system, and allergies are an immune response. JMO.
Where does the dog itch?

She chews her tummy, her knees and itches her neck. . .even when she does not have a collar on. I thought that maybe it was a food allergy as I did a little research. I have sensitive skin and use hypo-allergetic laundry detergent and have hardwood floors in my house. She itches all the time and not just when she is outside.
What are more common allergies that she might have? I guess that I have been lucky to never have had a dog with allergies before. Is there a good web-site I can find out more about allergies?
Thanks for all your assistance!

The most common is flea hypersensitivity. Second are environmental/inhalant.
Tummy -- in groin folds or right on the belly? Knees -- back legs?
How are the paws? Any biting/chewing?
Is there any sign at all of any flea exposure?
