A little late to try taping ears maybe, but this is the first time ever I had a GSD not have his hears go up by 6 months. Then again, they are the big ears so I gave them time.
He is 92 pounds, 6 months, and was and was a late teether. A week ago and his left ears was up on and off, then fully for a while, now it is flopped over his head.
I taped left ear up this morning at my husbands request, but isn't it too late to give a rip now? he "can" stand them up when he wants to so sometimes I think he is just a goofy. It got worse very, very slowly and on & off over time and took a real dive this past week which all began with an upset stomach which he is well over now - but the ear isn't any better at all.
Yes, straight and erect at about 4.5 months but only for a short time. Before that they would stand , touching at the tips in the center, and the problem ear would lop over on and off though the day - especially after trips so I blamed it on stress.
One ear is perfect, the other has been up once or twice for 5-7 days, then down again; then up a day/down a day. Even hourly through the day it changes. When something really grabs his attention - they can both stand beautifully, and then "flop!" there it goes across his head, LOL. Lately - it is almost always across his head. I find it quite adorable for a pup, but my husband thinks not (not at all). Honestly, I would do about anything to fix this, and could kick myself for my ignorance of such a problem (I never heard of such a thing).
A woman I met at our feed store told me to give him cartilage supplements to help but did not specify what exactly that was. I should have asked, but she was in a hurry.

I used moleskin inserts on my very large male pup. They worked very well. His ears didn't stand up perfectly until he was 8 months old. Sometimes the very large pups have more issues with their ears. I glued these inserts in the ears and they were easy to use.
al--i couldn't access the thread w/o signing on as a member...
that said, at 6 mo old, what worked w/my pup was 1)daily supplementation w/plain gelatin (knox) and 2) taping ears for 4 weeks. i never was able to find a glue that would stay put, so i simply did an insert cut out of a toilet paper roll, taped w/duct tape. crude perhaps, but SOMETHING worked...
christine--what glue did you use? that was my personal brick-wall--finding a glue that actually "glued" for more than 12 hours...or even 8....
six mnths isn't too late especially with larger pups. My boy grew fast and I didn't tape until 8 mnths.
I didn't put much hope because the right ear had always seemed soft and my boxer and gsd play so rough.
Glad to report Quincy will be 1 this week and both ears are up. Sometimes the right is down at night but mostly they both are up.
I told myself it didn't matter but boy is he handsome and regal with them up.
