I'm freaking out.
This afternoon I was running True in the yard and we both heard these loud pops while he was running toward me. He wasn't limping or holding a leg up...still raring to go. The popping noise stopped so I thought he was OK and just ran over something in the yard or it was a noise from elsewhere.
Just now, it *seems* like one of his knees is ever so slightly skewed outward. He's not limping but his gait is ever so slightly off. He's got a weird gait anyway from HD but now I'm really afraid the popping noise we heard was his leg.
Any ideas? What do I do? I'm really scared he may have done something to a ligament.

From the look of it, it seems like the left knee. He has a bit of difficulty getting up from a sit to a stand but once he's up he is able to move around with a very slight limp in his left leg. He's not picking the leg up at all and he doesn't seem to be in pain.
Every Google search I've done gives me information on surgery but I can't find anything that tells me what to do, and not to do, right now.

When my dog tore her ligament, I was told (before surgery): crate rest, walk on a leash for urination and defecation only, no stairs,
no running or jumping, and help getting in and out of the car (but only for vet visits). However, my dog was only using three-legs
after the injury. If you are going to see the Vet, rest until you go couldn't hurt. Also, since it was obvious what happened, I started watching her diet like a hawk to be proactive and avoid weight gain. This may be more than you need but this is what I was did.

Thank you, Mary.
Late last night, after my last post, he started lifting the leg and acting like it hurt. This morning, he's stiff but he's using it and walking with a slight hitch.
If a dog blows a ligament, wouldn't you hear just one pop? This was a series of pops that I guess could have been a joint popping in and out of the socket.
Knees can produce this sound but could True's hips be the source? I wish the vet was open today so I could stop wondering and just know what's wrong.
I would crate him and only take him out on a leash for now Sarah. Maybe ascriptin for the pain. I would want to watch him closly so that if nothing else you'll be able to describe what's going on to the vet.
Sarah, I don't know how relevent this is, but when I blew out my ankle, I heard 3 rapid pops in succession. Apparently, it was multiple ligaments tearing.
