For those interested, Joanne emailed me a couple weeks ago just after Brenna turned 2 years and told me that she thinks she might be one of the best dual purpose dogs she's ever seen.
I know I'll never her get her back but at least she'll be doing important work soon and may have some puppies in her near future.
Thanks for the kind words and messages checking in on me.
She didn't die, but it felt like she did for awhile there.
Woohoo! So good to hear about Brenna, Mike! She is a lovely girl and I'm glad you are able to check in on her as time goes by. At least she isn't totally out of your life. Nice to see you and glad you are doing okay, as well.
another update...Brenna is probably headed to Texarkana as a drug detection dog with a Sgt. on the TPD. Joanne relayed that info to me a little while ago.
Wow, just to think what it must feel like to look at what she has become and say "yep, that's my dog, isn't she great". Very cool. I know you must really miss her, but you must be so proud at the same time.
Joanne's been trying to find the right sire...she missed her last heat several weeks ago, now...but I'm sure she'll try and get some pups from her in the spring. I am proud and sad all at the same time. I was so happy to hear that she was one of the best dual purpose dogs she'd ever seen...not that I had anything to do with that but it was nice to know I knew she was something special.
Latest report, Brenna finished all her training and is now doing scent detection work in Texarkana. She made a find on her first day of work and her handler said she's one of the best dogs he's ever seen. They built her a pen and house on the prison grounds where she works now and they're taking her out to other sites, as well. The Sgt. said she's one of the smartest dogs and quickest studies he'd ever trained. I could not have provided a better place for her to work so in that way I'm very happy, but it's been over a year now that she's gone and it's still a bitter pill to swallow in having to let her go. Joanne told me she's going to try and get some pups from her this fall or next spring, so I know there'll be some little Brenna's out there somewhere
